BSOD 0x0000008e

Hi everyone,

I'm getting desperate. For the last month my pc started having the BSOD problem after using skype for about 20min. I also cannot play any games for more than 15min. The system crashes and the blue screen says something about 0x0000008e or 0X000000a. I uploaded the dump files. If anyone could help me, i would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

Hi, Croasian. Sorry you are having problems. Please read this thread, follow the instructions and post back. We will be glad to help you.

http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

You have several things going on. All of your dumps are bugcheck 8E, KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and all blame ntkrpamp.exe, which is a Windows system core file and very unlikely to be the real cause.

I suggest you uninstall
any CD virtualization program such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads. Select uninstall; do NOT select reinstall.

Here is a free alternative CD virtualization program that does not use the sptd.sys driver.
Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview

I also recommend that you uninstall TuneUp Utilities. Windows 7 is a totally different operating system than XP. Win 7 is not an evolution from XP. It is a totally new OS and even changed from Vista. Thus the wisdom we learned about XP - tweaking, cleaning, modifying for speed, etc - do not apply at all to Win 7. Forget that knowledge.

Windows is a closed source system. Developers of tuneup utilities and registry cleaners do not have the core code of Win 7 and are not working on definitive information, but rather they are going on past knowledge and experience, most of which is not applicable to Win 7. Automatic cleaners will usually have to do some guesswork.

There is almost no tweaking that can be done to Win 7 to speed it up. The system is designed to diagnose itself and take care of itself which it does remarkably well. Win 7 maintains itself and that includes the registry.

Tuneup utilities are pure snake oil. At best they do nothing except use resources. At worst, they can mess your system up, slowing it down, and even crash it. There is no tuneup utility out there anywhere that can speed Win 7 up and improve its performance, at least not at this time.

This isn't to say that the system does not need to be maintained. Uninstall programs that you don't use, delete unneeded and unnecessary files. Defrag your hard drive. But don't screw with the registry unless you are an in depth expert in the Win 7 registry.

We have seen the adverse effects of tuneup utilities and registry cleaners and registry defraggers in the Crashes and Debugging Section. Most of the time, the cure is a clean install. Using a program such as Ccleaner is fine to get rid of old and unnecessary files. A tuneup utility is not only unneeded, it can actually harm your system. Don't use them.

I will have more information when you upload the additional files following the instructions in the tutorial linked above.

Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

Hi CarlTR6,

i did as instructed.
I have a full retail version of Win 7 Ultimate 32bit. The installation is about a year old.
The system was bought about 2 years ago. Never had any problems at all.
I installed Tuneuputilities some time ago. I removed that along with Deamon Tools.

Thank you all very much for helping me

Happy new year by the way!

You are very welcome, croasian; and a happy new year to you! Thanks much for uploading the additional files.

I recommend that you uninstall Spybot. Tea Timer has been known to cause conflicts and crashes on a some Win 7 systems. Once you know your system is stable, you can try it again. However, I recommend installing Malwarebytes (free) and use it as an on demand scanner. Malwarebytes runs well with Win 7 and it is a good program.

Out of date drivers can cause memory corruption and BSOD's. Your dumps indicate memory corruption. The drivers listed below are quite obsolete. Software and hardware designed for XP will not run well on Win 7 unless it is updated for Win 7. Update the following drivers from the links provided.
Quote:
jraid.sys Mon Nov 03 21:20:23 2008 - JMicron RAID Driver. Driver.

pcouffin.sys Tue Dec 05 09:39:53 2006 - low level access layer for CD devices (A part of many different CD/DVD burning programs) VSO Download DVD Burning Software, convert AVI to DVD, video converter, DVD copy to DVD slideshow photo
or
rename to pcouffin.BAK and see what CD/DVD program it breaks. See below for more information on this driver.

PxHelp20.sys Wed Mar 12 21:57:44 2008 - Sonic CD/DVD driver (used by many different CD/DVD programs). pxHelp20.sys programs
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename PxHelp20.sys to PXHelp20.BAK
This will break your CD/DVD program, but can easily be renamed after we've finished. Update this driver or rename it.

pcouffin.sys information
: Read these two articles.

Patin Couffin driver

Pcouffin.sys and missing DVD drives!?!?!?

You can use VSO Clean to remove the driver.

Update or rename the above drivers. Uninstall Spybot, sptd.sys, and TuneUp Utilities. Reboot and see if your system is more stable. Post back and let us know. If you get another BSOD, upload it and we will go from there.

KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: 82ed2cfa, The address that the exception occurred at

I looked at your four most recent dumps. Three of the are bugcheck 8E and one is bugcheck A. This directly blames sptd.sys.

Please uninstall
any CD virtualization program such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

Please uninstall Tuneup Utilities as mentioned and explained above.

These out of date drivers are still showing in your latest dumps. Did you use the VSO removal tool?
Quote:
jraid.sys Mon Nov 03 21:20:23 2008 - JMicron RAID Driver. Driver.

pcouffin.sys Tue Dec 05 09:39:53 2006 - low level access layer for CD devices (A part of many different CD/DVD burning programs) VSO Download DVD Burning Software, convert AVI to DVD, video converter, DVD copy to DVD slideshow photo
or
rename to pcouffin.BAK and see what CD/DVD program it breaks.

Uninstall sptd.sys and Tuneup Utilities. Update or rename the above drivers. Reboot and let's see how your system does.

Arg2: 82ec1691, The address that the exception occurred at
Arg3: afebfa44, Trap Frame
Arg4: 00000000
