BSOD and looooong shutdown

I've been experiencing some pretty strange crashes of late. The computer will freeze up or (as it has been happening more recently) just reboot. I initially attributed this to a faulty graphics card, since it would crash under graphical strain in games or testing programs.

Once that was replaced I was still getting crashes, so I ran stability tests and found out that I was crashing under strain on the cpu as well (through Prime95 and intelburntest). My PC was overclocked, so I set everything back to its clock voltages/speed and I now get no crashes under CPU or graphical strain. However, I am still getting random crashes.

I just attempted to install a driver for my Asus Xonar DX sound card, which hanged during the install process, so I was forced to end the process. After that I attempted to install two critical windows updates. This also failed to install (just hanged during the install without freezing the PC), so I attempted to shutdown the computer and let the updates install that way. It took 10 minutes for the updates to install, and another 15 at the "Shutting down..." phase, followed by a crash. When I rebooted I got this message.

This is a brand new install of Windows 7 64 bit (installed fresh yesterday). The update that appears to fail to have been installed was the "Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile for Windows 7 x64-based Systems (KB982670)" since it is the only remaining important update after my crash.

Sorry for the length and detail here but I'm literally out of ideas and at my wits end. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
