however, now ati tray tools (and after a quick play, msi kombustor) are bluescreen producing non-ware, what do i use to control my card ?
catalyst seems flakey, but i guess i may have to give it another chance

well that didn't last long did it ?
same old same old ntoskrnl
bluscreenview says :
011311-24086-01.dmp13/01/2011 8:21:53 PMIRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL0x0000000afffffa80`150ce57000000000`0000000200000000`00000001fffff800`0315e1 c2ntoskrnl.exentoskrnl.exe+70740NT Kernel & System
damn you ntoskrnl !
also, this time it was adobe flash player than crapped it out i think, and that seems to have been a common reason - it usually screened out playing embedded videos in online newspaper articles, although i wasn't getting the adobe has crashed, and yes, i am running the current version although i did do a bit of searching and perhaps i need to do something about 64bit compatibility, though the firefox compatibility tool says it's fine
help me obe wan
the fan for gaming
i'd rather pre-empt the speed to 60% at the outset rather than wait for it to heat up
my cooling is good, but more control is better i reckon
fwiw, the card is modded so :
Now we have a Verifier-Enabled dump pointing to the NT Kernel. Time for some hardware diagnostics.
First, the standard ones: RAM, CPU/temperatures, and hard drive.
First, run the Prime95 tests. I think all 3 (Blend, Small FFTs, Large FFTs) would be appropriate now; run them each for a couple of hours, or until they fail (whichever comes first). Be sure to watch Speedfan, especially for the Large FFTs test!
Run Memtest86 overnight: RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Test hard drive with SeaTools.
In addition to those standard tests, try running Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
...Summary of the dumps:
As for what program you can use to control your card, give Riva Tuner a try.Code:Built by: 7600.16617.amd64fre.win7_gdr.100618-1621 Debug session time: Thu Jan 13 04:03:37.783 2011 (UTC - 5:00) System Uptime: 0 days 2:05:28.375 Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt!RtlInterlockedClearBitRunEx+b2 ) DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: VERIFIER_ENABLED_VISTA_MINIDUMP BUGCHECK_STR: 0xA PROCESS_NAME: System FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: X64_0xA_VRFK_nt!RtlInterlockedClearBitRunEx+b2 ииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииииии``
ntoskrnl.exe+70740 crashes me with embedded video yet again !
meantime :
memtest 4.1 ran overnight 8 passes - no errors
furmark hit 73c with the fan auto to 47% max - no errors
seatools long dst on the hdd - pass ( - no errors)
still need to do priming, but it's hot here presently and i don't need the room heated more; may do it overnight, but fwiw a quick down 'n' dirty 5 passes of LinX was - no errors also (but 65c is too hot for me; usual idle here is 34c, today it's ~40c - but probably the room is a little warm - outside ambient 29c)
it has crashed with loads way under that
i'll do stress testing when it seems better (cooler)
however, i'm thinking it's software - routinely happens with embedded video, adobe seems the major (possibly only) culprit - silverlight seems happy
where to from here ?
and update :
rivatuner threw an instant bsod when it launched after install
i think i'll consider a new o.s. install, except that although i bought a system with win 7 installed, it was an upgrade and the vendor had lost the vista disks... i still have the upgrade disks though
is it possible to do a legit reinstall without the vista disks, or am i up for buying yet another o.s. ?
i still have windows.old on the c: drive - does this enable me to do a clean install somehow, as the win 7 upgrade options program cd and key are intact ?
Before re-installing Windows, I would recommend that you upload new dumps.
Make sure Ccleaner is configured to not delete dump files.
i guess it isn't - here's what it has to say
