    Bsod

    Another user was on during initial crash - only details they had were "surfing internet" lol. all attempts to boot normally = bsod.
    Have used all hp's built in diagnostic tests - all passed. have tried multiple restore points using the system restore partition - some restore dates are successful and some end with error but, all still lead to bsod after user login prompt.
    Some safe mode logins are successful for a short period of time although most actions taken are incomplete = bsod.
    Alot of the bsod's are the "irql driver not less than or equal to" with iastor.sys listed. hopefully can get it running long enuf to reattach properly the dmp file here. am on work laptop now. ty for your help in this matter

    Love to help but you didnt upload the DMP file you uploaded the shortcut to it try again using this method

    If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
    * Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

    Ken thank you for your response. No luck in getting the notebook in question to boot in safe mode long enough to obtain the necessary files required here. One final question, if these issues were caused by trojan/virus of some sort - will the option to do total system recovery back to the notebooks original state fix these problems?

    Again thanks

    Please take a quick look and see what you think - have not done the final recovery just yet.

    Memory, hard disk, run in, and start up tests all passed.

    Went ahead and used hp's pre os boot utility to back up all user files and do an entire system recovery. Interestingly enough, all the bsod's were caused by a trojan "pinch" program (which all the pre boot scans had missed) that i did not catch until i scanned the back up disks before reinstalling them on the newly recovered system.
    Other than a mild hassle of updating the 1 year old software and re installing our favorite programs - all is running smoothly.

    regards
