noob help with blue screens and freezes

    Guys

Really need some help as i am now at the end of my teather with my W7 install. seem to get random blue screens and complete freezes of the system (no mouse or keyboard responses and anything that seemed to be working on screen freezes).

Have done numerous mem tests no errors on 10+ cycles and removed kaspersky last night then played CODMW2 and bluescreened after a while. As it stands this is the most unstable system i have ever built and its so damned frustrating.

any help really really appreciated - want to spend whatever free time doing anything or than trying to figure out whats going on with this....

    The details of my system

    Selfbuilt

Win7 pro 64bit - probably classed as retail as its an education install (so full and not OEM)
ASUS M4A77T/USB3 AMD 770 - new in last month
    bios 0601 29/11/10
    AMD athlon 2 X4 630 - 12months old
4G corsair dominator RAM running 9-9-9-24 @1600 12 months old
    nvidia 8800GS - 2yrs old

RAM is the source of your blue screens.

Your RAM is currently set 800Mhz (1600 effective) 9-9-9-24.

The right settings should be DDR533Mhz (1066 effective) 7-7-7-20 1.5v.

    To set the memory right:

    1. Load setup defaults in the bios
    2. Re-attach the MEMORY tab so I can verify

Once the RAM is set right, update the drivers as listed in my 1st post.

    hi cybercore

thanks for help but RAM is corsair dominator - TW3X4G1600C9D and thus should be capable of running at the 1600 level. one thing you have just mentioned though that i hadn't noticed is the voltage for 1600 needs to be 1.8v so will try that first. I did get freezes when it ran at 1066 at 1.5v in the past but that could have been a host of other issues that i have (hopefully) cleared now

i have updated drivers where i can but the usb3 and lan driver were the latest ones. is there a good app out there to clean out old drivers.

really appreciate the help, do feel i am moving this forward now rather than wanting to throw the lot out and start again - never had so many issues with a pc before

Could you give a link to it? What you say is not what CPU-Z shows. And although I can't always trust CPU-Z, it often identifies them right.

    High-performance 4GB Dominator kit for dual channel systems, 1600MHz, 9-9-9-24, 1.65V
    http://www.corsair.com/tw3x4g1600c9d.html

Your link shows the voltage should be 1.65v, not 1.8 as you first said. I'm not sure anymore. You can look up specs on the RAM package, if you have it.

I doubt that the RAM is defective, no, it's just set wrong. And when set wrong, RAM causes bsods and memtest shows 0 errors. What I witnessed many times.

    cybercore,

thanks for the help, genuinely grateful to you, this looks like a website and forum i will be frequenting in the future. It looks like you spotted the problem and sent me down the right path ;-) as a prime95 run overnight ran fine and a 3 cycle memtest this am has proven nothing along with 2hrs of COD BO session last night with no significant issues. the RAM has 1.8v printed on the side of it, it appears that corsair produced 2 types of the same RAM running at 1.65v and 1.8v....

hopefully thats this issue done with.
