| Windows 7: Regular BSOD's on my system, no idea why |

Regular BSOD's on my system, no idea why Hi, I have been having lots of BSOD's lately, sometimes 1-2 a day, sometimes 1 every 2-3 days or so. I don't use the computer that much, so it's hard to say how regular they happen. I tried looking at the minidumps myself, but i dont know what to look for, it seems it's all internal windows processes messing up, without drivers or so being at fault (not 100% sure about this though, i am a newbie when it comes to this). I can say I checked my RAM earlier and one dimm was faulty, so i removed it from the computer somewhere in december. It's supposed to come back tomorrow, all crashes in late dec and january have been with the 1 (good) dimm. I tested the good dimm for about 48 hours in memtest (usb-boot) without problems, so i assume its good. I had one bluescreen (jan 13 minidump file i think) due to disconnecting a USB device while my computer just detected it. I don't think this is related to the other ones. Windows 7 is
- x64 (ultimate), see profile.
- the original installed OS on this system
- It's a full retail version (bought in China though).
- The hardware is about 4-5 months old, have always had this problem (i think didn't use computer much). - All hardware and specs: see profile - I have not tried to reinstall windows Updated all drivers, BIOS and stuff I thought that could help. Running everything at stock speed, no overclocking. Have attached all files as stated in the sticky topic. Hope someone can help, because i feel i tried many things, but nothing seems to help. Thanks in advance, Kaolla | My System Specs |

Hi Kaolia and welcome to the forum. I looked at your four most recent dumps. They all blame Windows system drivers, which are highly unlikely to be the real cause, and all four indicate memory corruption. Three of them blame Direct X. This si usually a sign that something is causing conflicts.
I see that you have ASRock OC Tuner installed. If you are overclocking anything - CPU, RAM- video - please return to default values while you are troubleshooting.
I recommend that you uninstall any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads. Select uninstall; do NOT select reinstall.
Here is a free alternative CD virtualization program that does not use the sptd.sys driver. Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview
Out of date drivers can cause conflicts, memory corruption and BSOD's. I find the following outdated drivers loaded on your system. One is quite obsolete. Update these drivers through the links provided. Quote: athrx.sys Tue Jun 09 14:06:49 2009 - Atheros Extensible Wireless LAN driver for CB42/CB43/MB42/MB43 Network Adapter - D-Link AirPlus DWL-G520 Wireless PCI Adapter(rev.B) discontinued 2008. Atheros Communications. If you cannot update this driver, you need to upgrade to a new wireless adapter. inpoutx64.sys Fri Oct 17 19:01:16 2008 - I have been unable to determine exactly what this driver belongs to. LCDWriter maybe? Google shows a multitude of problems with it. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers, find this driver, rename it from .sys to .bak. Reboot and it will not load. It will break whatever device or program it is associated with.
Unistall sptd.sys, udate or rename the above drivers, reboot and see how your systems runs. Please post back and let us know. If you get another BSOD, upload it and we will go from there. If you need help with the drivers, please post. Code: Windows 7 Kernel Version 7600 MP (4 procs) Free x64

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc0000096, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: fffff80002c69fa1, The address that the exception occurred at
Arg3: fffff88003ab7f98, Exception Record Address

Hey Karl, thanks alot for your reply!
Of course I'm not overclocking atm, everything is set to standard values.
Already uninstalled sptd.sys yesterday, as I found that was causing trouble and i uninstalled daemon tools.
Didn't help as I had a bluescreen today. Did remove the low level driver device and renamed the other 2 drivers (already updated the drivers of my wireless card as well yesterday).
If I have another BSOD today or tmrw i'll post it. Hope this solved it though!

will do, so far still BSOD free, but wouldn't be the first time...
I checked by the way the new drivers of my wireless card still uses athrx.sys, so using a cable now to access internet... if it would solve the BSOD problem however i'd be more than happy to buy a new network card...
Will let you know in a couple of days! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU X4 965 Motherboard ASRock 870 Extreme 3 Memory 2 x 2 GB OCZ 1333 mhz 9-9-9-20 Graphics Card Yeston radeon 5770 Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Samsung Syncmaster P2450 PSU Antec TP-550 Case Antec 800 Cooling scythe mugen 2 + 4 case fans Hard Drives WD1002FAEX (1 GB caviar black) |

I fully understand about going for a period of time without BSOD's, then they return. What is the date of the new athrx.sys? If it is 13 July 2009 or later, it is probably good to go. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built OS Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit CPU Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz Motherboard ASUS P4P800-VM Motherboard Chipset: Intel 865G + ICH5 Memory 2.50 GB RAM Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS Sound Card SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio (Chip) Monitor(s) Displays ViewSonic VX 1962 wm Screen Resolution 1680 X 1050 Keyboard Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 v10 USB Mouse Logitec optic USB Cooling Fan based Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80 GB

hmm its 6th of nov 2009, but i had a BSOD after updating it, so i'll just leave it at this. Windows did give a message that the driver was not authorized or something like that (you know what i mean probably), so who knows...
My laptop has had a period too where i got countless of BSOD's because of my wireless card (although those always had the same error).
If my desktop would be BSOD free, i'll try re-enabling it and see if it's ok... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU X4 965 Motherboard ASRock 870 Extreme 3 Memory 2 x 2 GB OCZ 1333 mhz 9-9-9-20 Graphics Card Yeston radeon 5770 Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Samsung Syncmaster P2450 PSU Antec TP-550 Case Antec 800 Cooling scythe mugen 2 + 4 case fans Hard Drives WD1002FAEX (1 GB caviar black) |

Still BSOD free, used the computer quite a bit, but I am still not 100% convinced. If I ever do still get trouble, I'll come back to report, for now I guess you can mark it as solved.
