Windows failed to boot up but then did on restart.

Hello,

about an hour ago, I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic test on my laptop (I was in Windows, chose to run it fsr and let the computer reboot). It went through both passes with no errors. It then went to boot up Windows 7...and just didn't do it. It hanged on the "Starting up Windows..." bit right before the logo appears and eventually restarted itself. I got the Windows failed to boot error and I immediately went into repair mode, which did absolutely nothing. It was at the Attempting Repairs bit for well over 10 minutes when I shut the computer off (probably not a good idea). I turned it back on and this time, I chose to boot Windows 7 normally and voila, here I am. I didn't get the Diagnostic Memory report, though...

I found it strange that it refused to boot Windows once and but works now. Should I be worried that my machine is going to fail soon? It IS a 4 year old laptop.

Thanks!

No. Not for the reason(s) listed here. Why were you running a memory test?

Before the incident, my computer froze. It was the second time in two weeks and I had just done a scheduled virus scan in MSE which detected a threat (promptly quarantined then removed), the first I've ever gotten. so in a knee jerk reaction, I decided to test the memory after that.

I should also mention that I restarted the computer once more after that and everything works out. So was this just a freak occurrence?

Computer freeze is more indicative of an overheat.

Toothbrush your fan blades and blow out your vents. Short bursts of air.

Failure to keep a laptop fan clean can lead to fan failure which leads to increased sales revenue for someone else.

I see. That would make sense. However, what really concerned me was that Windows failed to boot part. Could this really have been a freak accident? Last time Windows failed to boot, my hard drive failed and I had to replace it. This time, it happened once and everything is working peachy now; I've done a checkdisk on the internal drive (no problems) but nothing else, restarted the computer a few times, and put it to sleep overnight. Still good. Freak accident? Or harbinger of things to come?

Thanks!
