Windows 7: Recently-Built PC, concerned with a BSOD

Recently-Built PC, concerned with a BSOD

Well, I just finished building a new gaming rig last night. Everything worked fine on the initial start-up, and was still stable throughout the evening. This morning, though, in the middle of a game, the computer had its first BSOD.

Problem signature
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48
Locale ID: 1033

BCP3: 0000000000000008
BCP4: FFFFF7FFBBB6F5D0
OS Version: 6_1_7600
Service Pack: 0_0

I unfortunately have very-little experience in reading error codes . I thought at first it may have been my graphics card (MSI GeForce 470 GTX Twin Frozr II); the 400-series of cards, from what I understand, are notorious for running hot under full load. I've checked the readings for this card, though, and under load it hasn't gone beyond 65 degrees. I'm a bit concerned now, and would like to figure out what caused the error before it gets any worse.

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

The problem started with Minecraft, a game; I was about 20 minutes into it before the blue-screen hit. On a bit of a tangent, Minecraft gave me issues on my old PC as well: my ethernet would sporadically die on me, but was easily fixed by unplugging the ethernet cord from my PC and plugging it back in afterward. I unfortunately can't say for certain if this same issue may be happening on my new PC.

Adding in another error report generated 20 minutes, also during Minecraft again.

Hi Shazbot111 and Welcome.

Your first dump file has a stop error 0xD1: Device Driver.
And your second dump file has a stop error 0x50: Defective hardware (particularly memory - but not just RAM), Faulty system service, Antivirus, Device driver, NTFS corruption, BIOS

Both blame Windows System Files which is highly unlikely, old and incompatible drivers are more likely to be causing the problem.
As a Priority:

AVG is known to be a cause of BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. Suggest that you uninstall it. Download the correct AVG Remover for your system (32 or 64 bit).
If you have AVG ID protection installed, download the AVGID Protection Remover from the above link as well (it wouldn't hurt to download and run it anyway). Download Microsoft Security Essentials as its replacement. Re-boot to Safe Mode. In Safe Mode run the AVG Removal tools. Re-boot to normal mode and install MSE. Make sure your Windows firewall is enabled!

RTCore64.sys Wed May 25 07:39:12 2005 RivaTuner or EVGA Precision. Has known issues with Windows 7. Uninstall XP software that is incompatible with Windows 7.

Let us know how it goes. If you get further problems with blue screens, attach your new dump files and details and we'll move on from there.

Alright, I'll start work on this ASAP!

I've managed to get everything done except the AMD AHCI Compatible Controller Driver update. Most of the driver updates I looked through pertained to the integrated ATI chipset (the mobo is an MSI 785GT-E63). I'm a bit apprehensive about downloading the, I already have the version 266.58 driver for my nVidia card.

In the meantime, I'll see if any other games will cause a blue-screen.

Sorry, yeah, you should check with your Mobo for updates. I must remember that for future reference.

I had MSI's Live Update check my drivers. The only thing of note is a BIOS update available, I can give that a try if you would recommend it.

Personally, I'd never recommend a BIOS update unless:
1. You know for sure you have a BIOS problem.
2. The Changelog listed an update that I knew affected my PC, or would make it better.
The reason being: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you get it wrong your PC can be toast. Finally, I'm a coward!!
Others may disagree however.

I don't blame you, I'm opting to fore-go the BIOS update as well .

Regardless, a round of Unreal Tournament 3 yielded another blue-screen. The interesting thing this time, though, is that my PC didn't automatically restart after creating the minidump; it just ended with "Contact System Administrator".
