Well.. Im new to the forums and posted this on what was an older thread so apologies to admins.. I know this can be a very frustrating problem so I started the thread.. Hope this saves someone the aggravation..
Finally solved this after in place upgrade to correct issues with windows 7 pro 64 bit.. event log showed faulting application path as windows c:\windows\explorer.exe and the faulting module as c:\windows\sytem32\ATKDispCPL.dll .. heres the easy fix.. copy (not delete!) the explorer.exe from the windows system 32 directory to windows SysWOW64.. download shex view and run it.. disable the ATKDisp.dll and boom.. back in business..
p.s... also make sure all your drivers
are up to snuff (especially video)..
