Windows 7: BSOD Dell Vostro 1500 win 7 x64 pro

Windows 7 Professional

BSOD Dell Vostro 1500 win 7 x64 pro

Getting intermittent BSOD. Some days nothing and other day a number of crashes.

Dell Vostro 1500 was originally shipped with Vista 32. Did a clean install with Win 7 x64 Professional.

Attached is the zipped BSOD Dump & System File Collection with the Perfmon HTML file in the zip as well.

I did run a memory check overnight a few weeks ago and it came up clean.

Appreciate any help - thanks.

Hi candem and welcome to the forum. I looked at your four most recent dumps. They show three different bugcheck codes and blame Windows system drivers, which are highly unlikely to be the real causes. Since no definitive cause is given, you will have to troubleshoot.

1. Begin your troubleshooting by uninstalling Spybot. Tea Timer is loading at startup and it, like many third party security programs, cause conflicts and BSOD on some Win 7 systems. I do not know if Tea Timers is causing a conflict. I suggest you eliminate it as a possibility while you are troubleshooting. Once you know your system is stable, you can try Spybot again. HOwever, I recommend that you install Malwarebytes (free) and run it as an on demand scanner. MBAM works very well with Win 7 and is a good program.

2. Out of date drivers are another big potential source of conflict and BSOD's. You have some outdated drivers loading on your system and some are quite obsolete. Update the following drivers or uninstall the software/hardware they are associated with. Begin by updating netw5v64.sys.
Quote:
b44amd64.sys Tue Nov 21 07:23:06 2006 - Broadcom NDIS driver. Broadcom.com - Downloads & Support. This is an XP driver. If there is no update for it, it means your LAN adapter is obsolete. Upgrade to a new LAN adaper.

dfmirage.sys Fri Jan 11 16:04:26 2008
- Mirage Driver by DemoForge, LLC. DemoForge Mirage Driver (DFMirage video hook driver). Update this driver or uninstall the software.

netw5v64.sys Thu Mar 26 12:21:24 2009 - Intel Wireless WiFi Link Driver. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx.

rimmpx64.sys Sun Mar 18 23:09:34 2007 - Ricoh Memory Card Reader driver. OEM - none at Home | Ricoh Global. As far as I know, there are no updates for this driver. Uninstall your card reader and upgrade to one certified compatible with Win 7.

rimspx64.sys Tue Feb 27 02:10:37 2007 - Ricoh Memory Card Reader driver. OEM - none at Home | Ricoh Global. As far as I know, there are no updates for this driver. Uninstall your card reader and upgrade to one certified compatible with Win 7.

rixdpx64.sys Mon Mar 26 06:48:23 2007 - Ricoh Memory Card Reader driver. OEM - none at Home | Ricoh Global. As far as I know, there are no updates for this driver. Uninstall your card reader and upgrade to one certified compatible with Win 7.
After you take care of these drivers, reboot ansd see if your system is more stable. If you get another BSOD, upload it and enable Driver Verifier carefully following the instructions in this tutorial: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable. Upload all dumps triggered by Verifier.

CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION (109)
This bugcheck is generated when the kernel detects that critical kernel code or
data have been corrupted. There are generally three causes for a corruption:
1) A driver has inadvertently or deliberately modified critical kernel code
or data. See Patching Policy for x64-Based Systems: Information for Driver Developers
2) A developer attempted to set a normal kernel breakpoint using a kernel
debugger that was not attached when the system was booted. Normal breakpoints,
"bp", can only be set if the debugger is attached at boot time. Hardware
breakpoints, "ba", can be set at any time.
3) A hardware corruption occurred, e.g. failing RAM holding kernel code or data.

Arg2: 0000000000000000, Reserved
Arg3: 61b43d35e8895286, Failure type dependent information
Arg4: 0000000000000101, Type of corrupted region, can be
    0 : A generic data region
1 : Modification of a function or .pdata
    2 : A processor IDT
    3 : A processor GDT
    4 : Type 1 process list corruption

Carl,
Thanks for the response. Following step taken:
1. I uninstalled Spybot
2. Could not find a Broadcom driver so I just disabled this device as I use wireless network
3. Installed Demoforge Mirage driver which the site said was for Win 7 x64 bit after rebooting the date on it was the same. I then uninstalled.
4. Updated the Intel Wireless driver
5. I uninstalled the Ricoh drivers but when I rebooted it just re-installed them. I then disabled them in Device Manager.
6 I also updated the Ricoh 1394 OHCI driver according to the instructions I found here http://social.answers.microsoft.com/...e-f7b2f8810b79

Will test the system for a while and see if this solves my problem.

Appreciate the help.

Okay - still having some issues. I found an updated Ricoh memory driver and installed that. I then had the problem that if I left the machine for an extended period (approx. 60 minutes plus), when I came back it had obviously rebooted. This happened a couple of times.

I thus decided to disable the Ricoh drivers as I don't use the card reader.

Everything was fine until I had another BSOD a few minutes ago.

Zip of jcgriff files attached.

Appreciate any input - thanks

Sorry you are still having problems. At least your system is a little more stable than it was. Your latest dump is bugcheck 50, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, which is usually caused by Defective hardware (particularly memory - but not just RAM), Faulty system service, Antivirus, Device driver, NTFS corruption, BIOS.

Even though you disabled the Ricoh drivers, at least one of them is still loading. Your dump shows rimmpx64.sys, 6/25/2009, as an unloaded module. This means it was unloaded from memory during the crash. I see that you updated the Ricoh drivers and even though they are not Win 7 drivers they may work. They are vista drivers. However, I recommend that you rename them until you get your system stable. Create a restore point, using Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers, locate all of the Ricoh driver files, and rename them from .sys to .old. Reboot and the drivers will not load.

I also see the following outdated drivers loading on your system. Update these drivers or uninstall your modem. If you are using dialup, you need to upgrade to a Win 7 compatible modem.

Take care of those modem drivers and the Ricoh drivers, reboot and let's see how your system does.

Thanks Carl.

Finally got a chance to look at this and I followed the instructions yesterday. Only challenge I had was with the modem. Uninstalled it but when I rebooted it just re-installed. I then disabled the modem instead.

Just had another BSOD - file attached.

Really appreciate you taking the time to help me on this.

You are very welcome for the time. Your latest dump is another bugcheck 50 and it blames win32k.sys, a Windows system driver and highly unlikely to be the real cause. Unfortunately the dumps tells us very little except that memory corruption is involved. Looking at your drivers, I see the modem drivers did indeed reinstall and all three Ricoh drivers are shown as unloaded modules. This means they were loaded also loaded also.

Here is what I suggest you do. Using Windows Explorer, do a search of your C: drive for each of the Ricoh drivers and the modem drivers. Make sure your system system is set to how system files and folders. Rename each instance of every driver from .sys to ._old. Don't forget the underscore. Reboot and these drivers should not be reinstalled.

Run your system and see how it does. If you get another BSOD up load the dump and then enable Driver Verifier. Carefully follow the instructions in this tutorial: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable. Please keep in mind that Driver Verifier will create a BSOD if it ecounters a faulty driver. Upload all Verifier enabled dumps.
