Windows 7: New Hardware BSODs

Windows 7 Professional x64

iTunes is fine; just post a new jcgriff2 report if the BSODs persist.

I'm afraid I don't think I'll be posting any BSoD's any time soon. I went to turn on my PC this morning and it wouldn't start up. Upon leaving it I realized that it's just hanging at the BIOS screen but only once have I got it booted into Windows now, and that time it gave me a BSoD after being booted for half an hour. The rest of the time it has got through, it has simply went into system recovery saying that it couldn't start up. I don't know what happened... it was running decently last night. I've contacted ASUS's tech support thinking it's a motherboard issue and hoping that will resolve this issue. Just waiting for a reply back from them now.

Let us know how it goes!

In the mean time, run Memtest86 and SeaTools for DOS.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Well I got my pc back up and running last night although it still hangs for a good 15 minutes or so at the bios. I did run the windows disk and memory checkers as well as sea tools but I'll try our memtest when I'm home.

Alright, attached is a jcgriff2 report as I have now had a BSoD since the last. Can you please take a look at the Error section of the new Perfmon? It has a new error about some device not working but I'm not sure how to pinpoint which device it is talking about.

I'm not used to Perfmon Reports - perhaps Jonathan knows a lot about Perfmons?

This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is

Dean - the Perfmon file is just in html format; it will open up in your browser. Open it up and see what's in there!

We can tell the device is a USB device or at least runs off of the USB hub. The device is listed as "Unknown device", and given the ID (USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\6&F57D961&0&4) and the error code (43), we can say the device is probably having hardware problems. Disconnect all USB devices, while keeping an eye on Device Manager. When you see the device with a yellow icon disappear, you know you've just unplugged the bad device.

I have seen bad USB devices cause hangs on the POST, so I won't say the two are necessarily completely unrelated.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Alright, I started pulling usb chords and the very first one did the trick. It was my printer, which has caused me nothing but troubles. It either stops halfway through printing something or doesn't print it at all and every time it has to hang for a good 15 minutes at least before printing anything. Now all that is attached to my computer through usb ports are my keyboard and mouse. It never causes me any issues with BSoD's or well, windows crashing errors on my last build but it wouldn't surprise me if it has been the cause of the some BSoD's.

Now, I realized one thing. The other day when things were better, when I went to be well, everything was good. The next morning when I booted up, that was when the BIOS started hanging. It occurred to me later that that night we had a time change and the clocks went forwards an hour. Windows had set the clock on my pc about 5 hours ahead. I've never seen it have issues with the clock. I have fixed it since then but it hasn't solved anything. Could this have been what causes the issues or is this just a coincidence?

As for the death adder driver. I've updated its driver a few times now. And I am almost positive that the latest driver was out when I installed windows so I'm thinking that when I installed windows maybe it automatically installed an older version of its driver to get it working and then I installed the latest driver. Would my best bet be to plug in a different mouse, go into safe mode and uninstall the driver, and then reinstall the driver? I am in the process of contacting razer because the click of my middle mouse button wont work but well, they don't like to respond. The small hardware issue there couldn't be causing issues, could it? It never has in the past...

Also Dean, last time I tried updating to Service Pack 1 I got a BSoD the next time I started up and simply couldn't get into Windows. I had to use a restore point to get rid of it and get back into my computer. Should I try it again and see if it's any better?

Check the time in the BIOS; see if that matches the time on your desktop.

Have you had any more problems since disconnecting the printer?

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I haven't had any issues yet but it has only been a few hours. Haven't restarted since then mind you so I'll try that. I'll also try checking the bios time as well but that's going to be difficult as I'll need to sit at my pc for 15 minutes while it hangs trying to catch that moment it booting up at so I can get in :/

Ah... alls good now! The BIOS doesn't hang any more since unplugging the printer Also I checked the time in it and it's spot on.

BSODs, possible faulty hardware but not sure...
Hi Everyone, My PC recently crashed, i.e. would not boot into Windows and I had to reinstall. I thought I may have fried the processor by overheating it (apparently I did not apply the thermal paste very effectively when I assembled this thing back in 2011...) but that does not seem to be the...

Hardware Runs 32-bit fine but BSODs with 64?
Hey guys, I have a Toshiba Satelite A205-S6810 laptop, and I had been having a lot of random boot crashes and BSODs at startup when I was trying to run the X64 version of Windows 7. For the fun of it, my friend told me I could try his 32-bit disc for a while to see if it worked better, and lo and...
