Acer Aspire One D255E netbook BSOD

    Hi guys,

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I just bought this netbook a couple days ago, and now I'm getting the BSOD on startup. I put in my password, and then Windows 7 is extremely slow to load. After it loads, I get the BSOD and it restarts. I have tried restoring the comp to previous state, using Registry cleaners, and Startup Repair, but to no avail. This is my first netbook, and so I am a little confused as to what I should do, considering there are no optical drives, and it didn't come with any software CD's or anything like that. Please let me know what kind of info you guys need! Thank you so much!

EDIT: Added the zip file, but I was unable to run the performance report. BTW I am in safe mode.

    Hello,

Check on Acer's website for an updated BIOS. I am having problems connecting to their site now; I don't know if it's my browsers, or if the site is down, but see if you can get there.

Any BIOS must be newer than this:
    Code:
    BiosReleaseDate = 11/17/2010
For that reason, I doubt you'll find one.

Run HD diagnostics; I recommend the Short and Long DSTs with SeaTools.

    Run Prime95 as well: https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html

Neither the SeaTools nor Prime95 will actually fix errors, just report them (hopefully!). If they error, that is grounds to return the computer.

In all honesty though, you may consider returning the computer right now; you shouldn't have to deal with BSODs so soon!

    jonathan,

thank you for the quick reply! just checked acer's site and found a new bios version (released a couple days ago):

Acer1. Supports new CCD key part. (more...)3.144.0 MB2011/02/08

how do i install it while in safe mode? do you think that this is causing the BSOD?

Honestly I'm thinking this is probably a hardware problem, and you should return the computer.

If you can just run the .exe file from Safe Mode, it might work. If not:

Find a friend with a CD burner, and then follow these directions to create a repair disc: System Repair Disc - Create

When the disc is burned, insert a USB drive, format it with FAT32 or NTFS, and then copy/paste every file from the CD onto the USB drive. You should then be able to boot from the USB drive. Copy the "BIOS_Acer_3.14_Windows" folder to the USB drive as well.

Take the USB drive to your netbook, and then change the boot order in the BIOS to have the USB drive boot first. Boot from the USB drive, and open a command prompt when it loads. Enter the following command exactly:
    Code:
    d:\BIOS_Acer_3.14_Windows\dos\flash.exe
If you can an error about not finding the file, substitute the letter E for D. See if that does the trick.
