Windows 7: Frequent BSODs

Frequent BSODs

Hey, I've got a windows 7 x64 system, not upgrade version. Hardware is about 4 years old, OS about 6 months. I use it as an HTPC and it's been giving me BSODs fairly frequently - like half of the days that it's in use. Perhaps it's a video problem that causes the BSODs? I updated video drivers recently but that didn't seem to help.

Also, it occasionally cuts out when streaming video from my NAS over SMB. Any ideas on how to go about debugging this problem?

Thanks,
tritium6

Forget the SMB issue, I'm really mostly concerned over the BSODs. If someone can just tell me how to go about identifying the cause that would get me started. I'd rather not turn off auto-reboot after BSOD because that means I'll have to get up in the middle of a movie and my wife won't appreciate that. Is there some way to get the error code apart from writing it down from the blue screen itself?

Thanks a bunch.

Hi tritium6 and Welcome.

STOP 0x0000001E: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Usual causes:
Device driver, hardware, System service, compatibility, Remote control programs, memory, BIOS.

Your latest dump file lists ntkrnlmp.exe
as the probable cause. This is a Windows System file and for it to be the cause of your crash is highly unlikely.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes.

As a Priority:

ASACPI.sys Mon Mar 28 03:30:36 2005 This driver is notorious for causing BSOD's. There is an update here: Asus ATK0110 driver. Look under the sub-heading: Utilities. Approx. 12th one down.

More to follow........
