IF the repair install can't solve it. the next step would be a clean install.
SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation
Clean Install Windows 7
Since you have a Dell one with OEM Windows. you may have to activate your License by phone.
Activate Windows 7 by Phone
lot of people having trouble with sata/ahci drives on windows 7, 64 bit.
while this isn't a FIX of the problem, I found disabling ahci in bios reduces the freezes. things still freeze when you do something that requires higher privileges (pretty much anything in control panel)
I suspect AHCI reads and operations require system privileges at some level. this is my theory for the issues I had found on my gf's family's computer. the thing that sucks is that it worked fine for 2 months (since xmas) and then became virtually unusable for anything including web browsing.
see this thread:
Windows 7 randomly hangs
I did the Clean repair yesterday and everything seems to be back to normal and working fine.
Thanks everyone for you're help.
