Computer keeps freezing...

    Malwarebytes' anti-malware is a dedicated malware scan. probably the ones that MSE can't detect. so it's suggested for you to do it just to be sure that your PC is malware-free

    IF the repair install can't solve it. the next step would be a clean install.

    SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation
    Clean Install Windows 7

    Since you have a Dell one with OEM Windows. you may have to activate your License by phone.

    are you getting "program not responding"?


    lot of people having trouble with sata/ahci drives on windows 7, 64 bit.

    while this isn't a FIX of the problem, I found disabling ahci in bios reduces the freezes. things still freeze when you do something that requires higher privileges (pretty much anything in control panel)

    I suspect AHCI reads and operations require system privileges at some level. this is my theory for the issues I had found on my gf's family's computer. the thing that sucks is that it worked fine for 2 months (since xmas) and then became virtually unusable for anything including web browsing.

    I did the Clean repair yesterday and everything seems to be back to normal and working fine.
