Try updating your video drivers in safe mode, if it doesn`t work, try restoring your system. If that doesn`t work, try using the integrated video card your mobo could have.

I'm no expert, thou, so if someone else says something else, do that

I can tell you, thou, that more info about your system could ease this whole thing.

Try this. When you get to the Black screen, hold down Ctrl + Alt + Delete. That should take you to an options screen, press cancel will take you back to your desktop.
It should now be showing. I only did that once and my desktop stopped playing up, I'll see if I can find the thread I read it in to get you more info. And what caused it I cannot remember!!

Alternatively, once you get to the Ctrl + Alt + Delete screen click on Start Task Manager then go to File -> New Task -> type explorer.exe and press enter.

Black Screen with moveable mouse AFTER log in.
This error has been occurring now and again over the last few months, but was always fixed with a restart and log in attempt being successful. Although, it became such a prevalent issue I made a habit of simply hibernating when I needed to 'shut down' my laptop, which would without fail log me in...
