Computer shut off without blue screen

I have an Hp-dv7-4285dx laptop and last night it shut off with no warning what so ever. It didnt go through the shutdown process, it just suddenly shut off. This has only happened once. I'm pretty confident it wasnt over heating since i was just browsing the internet (forum, no vidoes or anything) and it shut off as if it were only connected by the power and unplugged. Its not the case because the battery is in and also connected to the power. When I powered it back on, no error messages or anything. What may have caused this?

    * Have you checked in Event Viewer ?
Event Viewer - Windows Logs - System & Application. Check for any red error messages to do with this problem.

    * Other areas to check -

Make sure you are using the computer on a hard surface.
Do not use it on your bed, or your lap.Overheating is a problem.
Check to see that there is plenty of clearance for the air intake to the heat sink and fan.
Do you hear the fan starting up every now and again? If no- then the fan might be faulty.
Open the notebook up and clean any dust etc away .

    * Check out HP's Support Forum for any similar problems.

    * How old is this computer?

You should have a standard 1 yr warranty »

no red error messages in the log. Yes its on the desk and the back of the computer is elevated. I wonder what else it could have been.
