Windows 7: Kernel-Power Event 41 (63) twice in 24hr

09 Mar 2011   #1

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

UPDATED : Kernel-Power Event 41 (63) 3x in 24hr || New error code

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Full Retail -all MS updates installed
Hardware is less than 2 weeks old
Install is less than 2 days old
Latest drivers installed

The first crash seemed to be random. The second happened as I was plugging in a usb extension cable. The usb might be coincidence because it works fine now. I have run full tests on the RAM, CPU and GPUs and everything seems work 100% stable. I am able to run intensive programs without problems, so Im not sure what is causing this. The machine is on a 1Kw PSU, so power shouldn't be an issue.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I have reinstalled all of the AMD/ATI drivers and updated the EMU drivers, but It has crashed twice since that. Once when I was trying to launch DragonAge2 and once when I was plugging in a USB device (like last time). The last error code I got is different from the rest but I dont know what it means and I dont know if it is related to the 0x116 video error I got from the first crashes.

If the machine specs help:
2x HD Radeon 6950s in crossfire
ASUS CrosshairIV Extreme mobo
Crucial c300 SSD
AMD 1100T 6core CPU
8gb pc12800 ram

I have attached a new BSOD report to help.

Read the 0x116 troubleshooting please. It could be failing GPU or RAM - or even both.

I did everything in the 0x116 guide before I made my first post here. I tested each stick of RAM (both individually, then together) in each motherboard slot for many hours with no errors. Then I used Prime95 for a 24hr burn in test and it passed with no errors. I ran sfc /scannow with no errors. I can run FurMark without problems. Neither GPU hits more than 83* during a test and maintains an average 50 fps. I can usually run games perfectly, but the system BSODd once as I was launching DA2- It hasnt happened since. The SSD dosnt have any issues either.
Is there any other way to test for a problem here?

This is in case you are getting errors in Prime95 and want to nail down the cause

Run HDD diag and MemTest prior to Prime95

Run Blend test

Swap RAM sticks around per Steps 7 through 10 of this link and run Prime95 (in Blend mode) on each stick/slot: Memory Diagnostics
This is because of issues found in this topic: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...ml#post1076674
************************
DISCUSSION:
Small FFT's test CPU cache and very little memory.
Large FFT's access' a lot of memory - but in-place option keeps it limited
Blend is not run in-place, so it cycles the tests through a lot of RAM

All tests stress the CPU
In-place large FFT's and Blend also test CPU/RAM interface (mobo in all but Athlon64 and Intel i-series)
- This would then be testing the memory controller onboard the CPU in the Athlon64 and i-series processors
In-place large FFT's stress CPU more than Blend
MemTest is better at testing RAM

Prime 95 tests 3 things:
- Memory
- CPU/RAM interface (mobo in all but Athlon64 and Intel i-series)
- CPU

FWIW - the distinction between RAM and different types of memory in the system is one that I've made. The documentation that I've read speaks of RAM issues and CPU cache - and doesn't mention the other aspects. BUT, this is just speculation on my part, so we'll have to see how it works for us.
