    Please Help - Random Crashing

Ok just to clear thing up my name doesn't relate to this post, so I'm not being rude. I'm just called this on other forums, :).

Ok so I have a sony vaio vgn-nr32s. I bought it for a gift, and turned in on. It worked perfectly on the mains charger. Once I took it off the charge the battery drained extremely quick, and went down to 29% in about 7 mins. Then the laptop crashed, turned off with no warning, just a black screen. When I turned it back on with the mains plugged in it said charging 1% in the notifications.

Now what i want to know is, is it the battery? Is it a windows 7 problem as it was upgraded from windows vista? Would a new battery fix the problem?

I will do any test and upload any logs that will help you figure out the problem. As I say this is a gift for someone, and I'm stressed out :).

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can always try getting a new battery and see if that fixes the problem. Do the simple stuff first before trying to dig into the complicated things

Yeah, I know what you mean but a battery is quite expensive. Was wondering if I could fix the problem without spending money first.

The battery appears dead (IMO). Check the Sony documentation to be sure - but the solution here is (again IMO) to buy a new battery. Yes they are expensive - but the alternative is to purchase a new laptop.
