BSOD - Kernal Data Inpage Error

Hi all

New here and I hope that someone is able to help.

My HTPC video froze for a few seconds earlier this evening before it eventually kick started itself and kept on working. About an hour later, it did it again and gave me a BSOD 'Kernal Data Inpage Error'. The BSOD says that it will dump the contents of the memory to a dump file, but never actually does this. There is a file located in C:\Windows called 'Memory.dmp' but it has a file size of zero so I doubt it contains anything useful.

Without any evidence to pinpoint exactly where the problem lies, could I be looking at a graphics driver issue here? Is this memory.dmp file useless as it stands?

BTW - this is a next to brand new system (mobo, CPU and RAM brand new, graphics card nearly new and TV card about a year old). Ironically, the new mobo, CPU and RAM were bought to replace a system that was BSODing a lot...)

Here's a mini dump file if anyone is able to tell me what is causing the problem, it'd be very much appreciated

. I can't believe that even a brand new HTPC and installation of Win 7 is still causing me problems.

Thanks I'll get right on it, but yikes, even the hard drive is just a month own (a shiny new Samsung F3 1TB drive).

As a side note, I've noted that the hard drive is currently plugged into SATA slot 3. Do you think moving this to SATA 1 would make any difference?

Following on from this, the Seagate SeaTools scan showed up no problems (I performed all the tests available). However, my system is still unstable.

I've returned home today to find the HTPC switched on, but none responsive (no picture) so I just hit the reset button.

In the event viewer, the last entry prior to my reset at 18:32 was at 13:43 and was just a normal 'Service Control Manager' event. A few minutes earlier the system had woken from sleep to record a program.

The events after my reset show 'Error - The previous shutdown at 13:46:08 on 29/03/2011 was unexpected'.

There is then another error that states 'Unable to produce a minidump file from the full dump file' and then another stating 'The Computer has rebooted from a bugcheck 0x000000f4' etc etc.

And then a 'Critical - the computer has rebooted without cleantly shutting down first'.

I really don't know what else to do!

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Edit - as an additional note, the TV programs that the HTPC has turned itself on to record before crashing seem to be in the region of 3 minutes long, and then give me a message 'Corrupt Recording'.

Many thanks for your reply Jonathan. Please see the report attached. Incidently, over the last few days I have set the HTPC to never go into standby mode, and it hasn't crashed once since (about 3 days now).

Try installing the latest BIOS for your board: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards - ASUS M4A78LT-M LE

The reason I asked for the jcgriff2 report was for the Event Logs. Specifically, I was hoping to find this error:

Sure enough.

We are looking at hard drive corruption, really. It's impossible to tell right now whether the disk is physically bad or if there is truly a controller error.

Test the SATA I port; you may need a special SATA III cable to use the SATA III ports.

EDIT - It seems I already have the latest BIOS version (0802).
