BSOD's after reinstall W7-64bit, no crashes in Linux 2nd drive
I've been having problems with BSOD's and funky freezes and screen graphics crashes (see attached pic) ever since I got this computer last Nov. Crashes usually happen while surfing internet (firefox or chrome), or working with photo files, switching users or randomly. Latest crash happened while updating MSE definitions.
So 3 weeks ago, I reformatted the drive and reinstalled Win7-64 home off Dell factory image and also did:
-update BIOS off Dell website
-update Realtek and HDGraphics drivers
-disable Atheros wireless card (don't use)
-3 days ago, install 2nd hd w/ Linux Mint to see if any crashes-none in 3 days, so maybe this is a software/driver/compatibility and not hardware issue?
I also had to repair MBR ("bootsect /nt60 c: /mbr" command) to get rid of GRUB. Now I'm having trouble installing important Windows updates, like new service pack for x64.
3 days now, no crashes in Linux on 2nd drive. I've also run
memtest+86 for 10 passes no problems,
video memory stress test 4 passes no problem.
I suspect software and not hardware at this point, but I need the experts opinions (you!). Is there a driver or program or something causing these BSOD's? Thanks for any help you can offer.
