Windows 7: BSOD

17 Mar 2011   #1

Windows 7 64-bit Home Edition

BSOD

All computer info is filled in my profile and I've uploaded a .zip file based on the instructions on the sticky.

Here's what happened:
I was surfing the internet, when suddenly Norton Internet Security warned that removing a device without safely removing it could cause an error. Initially, I was confused because I did not remove a device. I attempted to open "Computer" and I received and error about not being able to open it. A couple of seconds later, I received a BSOD.

My computer automatically rebooted and after logging in to Windows 7, everything is working fine, except I had to unplug then replug in my wireless adapter.

Also, I viewed Event Viewer and I have 1 Critical, 5 Errors, 2 Warnings, 1,705 Information, & 34 Audits in the last hour.

Critical:
EventID 41 Kernel-Power (8 of these since 2/13/2011)
"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

Errors:
EventID 1001 BugCheck (3 since 2/20/2011)
"The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000f4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xfffffa800c906b30, 0xfffffa800c906e10, 0xfffff800023907f0). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 031711-34710-01."

EventID 6008 EventLog (8 of these since 2/13/2011)
"The previous system shutdown at 10:59:58 PM on ‎3/‎17/‎2011 was unexpected."

Event 7000, Service Control Manager (14 of these since 2/12/2011)
"The DES2 Service for Energy Saving. service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified."

Event 8003, browser (3 of these since 3/5/2011)
"The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer DSEELY-PC that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{BA050340-167C-42B0-B613-02104860C5A4}. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced."

Event 8032, BROWSER (5 of these since 2/16/2011)
"The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{BA050340-167C-42B0-B613-02104860C5A4}. The backup browser is stopping."

Hello and welcome,
Dump blames your HDD....

If SeaTools reports errors - you must replace the HDD.

Windows 7 64-bit Home Edition

I've scheduled Disk Check and will follow up later today.

I ran System File Checker with 100% Verification and it did not find any integrity violations.

Also, would SeaTools work properly with my g.Skill SSD HDD?

I went ahead and ran some tests any way.

My HDD failed Short DST and passed Short Generic & Long Generic. All 3 tests received the following exception:
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I also ran a Drive Information Inquiry that resulted in a Fatal Error pop-up and the Program Ending.

Win 7 Pro x64 SP1 OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.7

I'd go ahead and get a new HDD. If you have an old HDD somewhere in your house - try that.
