Played game - crash - reboot ; failed - safe mode crashes - boot fails

Greetings!

I posted this on windows7forums as well but I thought I'd post it here too, since I need all the help I can get with this strange problem...

My posts on there from yesterday:

-------------------------------------------

I recently purchased Bulletstorm, and received it last night, installed it, played it, no problem. Untill I was playing for about 2 hours. The graphics got stuck, but the sound kept going. I did Ctrl-Alt-Del and click run taskmanager, it went to the desktop, and said Bulletstorm was still active. So I clicked on Bulletstorm again and it worked again. Then it happened again. This time Ctrl-Alt-Del did nothing, and the screen went black.

I waited a minute or two to see if anything would happen, but it didn't, so I tried to reboot the machine. It failed to boot, it got to the Windows start-up screen, then rebooted itself, same problem.

I tried to reboot it into safe mode and it got to safe mode. It gave a message that Windows 7 had encountered a blue screen (this is why I'm posting this all here), and it said it had recovered. So I thought 'ok, so that works', but a minute later safe mode crashed (it got stuck, nothing responded, not even the mouse).

I tried to reboot it again, but same problem as before.

(Before you ask, yes I've got the minimum requirements for Bulletstorm, by far.)

My specs:

Intel® Core™ i7 870 Processor 2.93 GHz
6144 MB RAM
1 TB Harddrive
1024 MB nVidia GeForce GTX460
onboard soundcard
Windows® 7 Home Premium 64 bits
1000W Aero Cool Powersupply

I'm posting this from my pc at work btw, I have no other machine to work with at home. My personal suspisions are that the 1024 MB nVidia GeForce GTX460 has died / is dying.

All help is appreciated. Will provide any further info that I can if needed, please help!

Thanks in advance,

Dennis

-------------------------------------------

When I get home again (in about 9 hours from now...) I'll try to copy them out, if it'll let me. Will report back a.s.a.p, hopefully with the files. If you (or anyone else) have any further suggestions/ideas please post them, I'll print the thread before going home and try everything the machine will let me.

-------------------------------------------

My update from today:

-------------------------------------------

Greetings!

DMP files attached. Hope they help.

In other news:
  • Safe mode continues to crash (get's stuck) after a minute or 2, 3 at the most.
  • Can't access the BIOS, when I get to the CMOS it get's stuck
  • Found a DIAGNOSTICS option in the boot menu, called 'Pre-Boot System Assessment Build 4521"
  • -> All first tests passed
  • -> Asked to do another recommended 30 min test, did that; all tests passed
  • It then gave me the option to run a dell stand alone memory test called 'MpMemory Ver. 0494' which ran multiple tests (Stress, WCMATS, WCMch, MATS, MarchB, XMATS32, WdPcMch, MarchS, all tests passed)
  • It gave me the option to run dell system diagnostics called 'Hardware Diagnostics build V1384.1
  • -> Ran 'Express test'
  • ---> Gave error code 3700:011B with message 'REAR_FAN - The fan speed is incorrect'. - I have no rear fan so I suppose this is not a problem.
  • ---> Gave error code 0F00:133C with message 'DISK - No suitable disk media is present'. In the background it said the device it was talking about was 'SATA DVD+RW 0: DVD+RW TS-H653H'. - Is this because there wasn't a disc in the drive?
  • ---> Gave error code 0F00:0666 with message 'DISK - Self-test did not finish in time'. In the background it said the device it was talking about was 'SATA Disk'. - Could this be the problem?
  • Then the Express test finished and it gave me the option to run the Extended Test, so I did.
  • ---> Gave error code 3700:011B with message 'REAR_FAN - The fan speed is incorrect'. Like I said I have no rear fan so I'm guessing I shouldn't be worried about this message?
  • As I post the Extended Test is still running, it started abour 13 hours ago, I can abort it but I reckoned this would not be a good idea, lol.
When I get home again in a few hours I will look for an old laptop I might still have laying around so hopefully I can most more frequent updates from there. I will also try to run CPUZ and Rammon in Safe Mode. I highly doubt I will have enough time to make screenshots of them, but since it'll get stuck I will have plenty of time to write down absolutely everything it says.

Hope the DMP files already help to get a solution though. I use this machine for games and work, and would really like to get some work done over the weekend...

Anyone that can help please post!

-------------------------------------------

Attached the DMP files in a ZIP file to this post, hopefully someone here can help out as well. I checked the thread you've got on posting about BSOD problems, but since I can't get to windows I can't run the software you provide, so I hope this way of posting is acceptable as I really need your help.

Any more info anyone needs please ask and I'll reply as soon as I can of course.

Thanks in advance,

Dennis

Hello Dennis,
Please visit this tutorial to fix startup errors---> Startup Repair
It may require at least 3 times to fix the problem.

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads
You can use MagicDisc as an alternative: Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview

Do the followings...

- Boot into Safe Mode with Networking
- Uninstall the Display Drivers
- Use Driver Sweeper to sweep the traces of the driver Guru3D - Driver Sweeper
- Reboot into Normal Mode
- Install the latest version NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.58 WHQL

If problem persists, read... STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting

Regards...
Dean

Hi Dean,

Thank you very much for your help! I'm posting this from the pc that had the problems! I followed all your instructions and it seems to be back up and running... However, some kind of problem still remains, as it did just crash on me again. When it rebooted it said it was because of a blue screen (all I saw was a black screen when it crashed). So I have another dmp file, can you analyze it and help out again please?

EDIT: It crashed when I did SFC /SCANNOW in CMD. It was from the link you posted with 'if problems persist...'. I thought I'd give it a scan even though it booted up. Thought it wouldn't hurt, I guess it did, but it shouldn't crash during that should it? So I guess there's still a problem somewhere...

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Dennis

Hi Dean,

I did, the crash happened after that. Should I do it all again? The pc hasn't crashed since I posted it btw, running smoothly without problems for 3 hours now.
Oh, and I searched my drives just now for any file with the name sptd, but it didn't find any

Regards,

Dennis

Uninstall Daemon Tools. Then run this SPTD removal tool: DuplexSecure - Downloads
Make sure you select Uninstall; Not Reinstall

Then use MagicDisc as an alternative: Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview

If you did uninstall and reinstall the nVidia Graphics - then please read the 0x116 Troubleshooting. It could be a faulty graphics card.

Ok, did what you said, again, and wish I hadn't.
For I am posting this from my ancient laptop...
Everything on the other machine seems to work (kinda hard to try all the software you've got) except for my usb modem (my only way of connecting to the internet). It worked just fine before I followed the steps (again) that you just posted, since I was posting from the other machine before.
It refuses to start the software for the usb modem, and also refuses to start the setup for the software.
I've tried running CCleaner to clear all temporary files, and I can CCleaner's registry problem&fixer option as well in the hopes that that would solve it, but it didn't.
The software and USB modem work just fine on my laptop, as I am posting from it right now...
Any idea on the the heck just happened?!

EDIT: Completely removed the software for the usb modem, downloaded the software through my laptop, copied onto usb stick, copied onto pc, installed, and now I'm online on my pc again...that was weird.

Right-o, was just browsing the web (not even watching a video or anything just browsing realtek's website) and bang; BSOD. Few seconds later the screen went black and the internal speaker beeped at me 6 times. Tried to reboot, got to the windows loading screen, screen went black, and instead of showing the desktop, bang; another BSOD. Managed to get the DMP files after rebooting into safe mode twice, once again, they're attached.
If Dean / anyone else could analyse them that'd be good. Do I need to buy a new graphics card?

Oh, sidenote; the pc is now running Memtest86 from a usb stick. Fortunately, that doesn't crash/get stuck - or at least, not yet.

So yeah, posting from the ancient laptop again waiting for help from the friendly folk at sevenforums Thanks in advance.

Run Furmark for Graphic Card Errors: Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Run it until the temperatures stop increasing; usually less than ten minutes, If you don't see any artifacts or distortion on the screen, consider the test passed.

If any errors occur during Furmark Test - you must replace the graphics card.
If you are overclocking anything (CPU, RAM, GPU) - stop and return to default values.

Hi Dean,

Wow, I actually managed to start it up with the normal boot and run FurMark. It got up to 70 degrees, then the image disappeared, but the bar with the minimize and close buttons etc was still there. Is that one of the errors? Is my (still pretty new) videocard in need of replacement?
Also, before I got it into normal boot, when it started it gave 6 beeps again, which means the keyboard has a problem?!
This is some weird stuff...hope you can explain it a bit. Thanks so much for your help so far & your future help, really appreciate your patience and taking so much time to help me out.

EDIT: As I was typing this (on the laptop) it crashed and tried to reboot itself, but failed.

EDIT 2: Oh, and I' m not overclocking anything, never have either.
