BSOD with >2gb ram, more ram = faster bsod

Hi everyone,

Stats-
CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor BX80562Q6600
MOBO- GIGABYTE GA-P43-ES3G LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard

Recently my motherboard died, so I picked up a new Gigabyte P43-ES3G to replace it. I added all 8gb of ram, set out to install win 7. Not even through the first boot, i got a BSOD. Buddy came over to try and help, we used a different 7 cd, same result. Ended up taking out all of the ram but 1 stick, and everything worked perfect. I got everything installed, then tried 8gb again, wouldn't get to desktop w/o BSOD. Took 1 stick out, leaving 3, lasts about 5 mins, then BSOD. Took 2 out worked around an hour, then BSOD. I'm on the machine now with 1 stick and it's been up for 24 hours.

The graphics card was new, but old motherboard was ATI and I couldn't get it to post with it. After switching out old card back in, even that wouldn't post. My buddy who had the entire same PC as me switched over his CPU and RAM and it posted fine. The new mobo was cheap and as soon as I got the new one, it worked right away (with 2gb ram of course).

I followed the instructions for the dump files and the permon, and they are all attached in a zip.

I greatly appreciate any help you guys can provide!

Nick

Thank you for the response Dean.

I started by updating to SP1 and the realtek, no luck.

Next I put all 4 ram in, ran memtesk & it froze at about 01m:38s with no errors. I took all but 1 out, my normal good config, and it ran 4 passes with no problem. I thought well while I'm at work I'll let the 4 sticks go again and see what happens. At about 00m:03s the red errors were popping up all over & kept coming until it froze at about 02:28. Does it save a report when it crashes?

Thank you again for helping me out.

If it freezes during Memtest - it is a hardware issue. Red errors indicate RAM problem - I suggest that you RMA the whole memory kit and get new ones so that you do not get compatibility issues.

Have you tried increasing the memory voltage in the BIOS? I've read that when you run with all 4 sticks you need to bump up the voltage.

Ram 3 and 4 failed 1m into being slot 1 and 3, in slot 2 4 they've almost finished pass 2. Also, the pass they are on now has the cas at 5 7 7 24, every other test i've run had it at 5 5 5 15. that give any info?

No i haven't messed with any voltage yet. Might give that a try soon then.

I dunno, I'm not a big fan of overvolting RAM to overcome stability issues. I'd RMA the kit to be safe assuming it's under warrantly and replace it with parts known to work in that motherboard of equal value if possible. For most of us, our computers are pretty important to our day-to-day work or lives, so messing with them when they're under warranty is just not good practice in my opinion - when the hardware starts to show errors in tests, replace it!

I hate to RMA the ram when it looks like it has to be a setting of some sort. I've run 9 tests now with the following

ram 1-4 in slot 1-4, instant fail
ram 1, slot 1, fine
ram 2, slot 1, fine
ram 3, slot 1, fine
ram 4, slot 1, fine
ram 1+2 in slot 1+3, instant fail
ram 3+4 in slot 1+3, instant fail
ram 1+2 in slot 2+4, fine
ram 3+4 in slot 2+4, fine

I don't understand how this could be a ram defect. The only thing I noticed from this is that when paired ram was in slot 1+3, ram timing was 5-5-5-15, and failed. When paired ram was in 2+4, timing was 5-7-7-24 and worked fine. I'm not sure what kind of conclusion I can draw from this though

Have you tried doing a factory reset on the BIOS?
