Windows 7: Laptop Died

Alright. So, just a few minutes ago, my laptop died. I was sitting on my bed with my laptop in my lap. I was looking at some word documents and about to start working on a paper when there was a click noise and the laptop just shut off. I tried turning it back on and got nothing. I tried putting in the charger and got nothing. I tried taking out the battery and leaving in the charger and got nothing. The thing is just dead and won't turn back on. My first suspicion is that it could have overheated while in my lap (possible not getting enough air flow), but it's never done this before. Any suggestions?

PS. No BSoD. Just 'click' and off. No luck trying to boot. Getting nothing.

When I first started reading my first thought was , you shouldn't have put it in your lap...
The clicking noise suggests a hard drive issue to me, but this shouldn't prevent the system from posting or powering on at all. I would remove the battery and the ac adapter overnight, and just let it rest, it may decide to function again in the morning.

Try taking out a memory stick and leaving the other one in or swapping them around.

Tried leaving out the charger and battery all night and it didn't help. Power is still dead. I'm getting no response from the laptop at all. Don't know how to find the memory stick on my laptop. It's an HP dv4t.

Well Laptops generally have a removable panel on the bottom that when its removed exposes the RAM, Hardrive, and Wireless Card. The RAM itself looks like two shortened regular sticks of RAM, first check too see if they're properly seated, I tried to turn on a computer who's RAM wasn't seated and nothing happened, same as you, if they are seated properly, try what Bill2 mentioned and leave one in and swap it with the other one too see if something happens, and if that doesn't work, then maybe it's just overheated and won't start at all until it cools.

Well, it still hasn't started so I believe that takes out the temporary heating issue problem. I need to get a screwdriver tomorrow to check out the inside and RAM. Let you know how that goes.

well just for the record a capacitor that is bulging at the top or discolored is burned, and that's pretty much that.

My brother is going to take a look at it. I'll let you know if he fixed it or if it is fixable.
