Please update all your drivers from the manufacturer's website - then visit Windows Update and check in "Important Updates" for Service Pack 1. Download and install it.

Repeated errors of this type in Event Viewer - System logfile:
    Event[113]:
    Log Name: System
    Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Processor-Power
    Date: 2011-04-03T08:08:58.625
    Event ID: 6
    Task: N/A
    Level: Error
    Opcode: Info
    Keyword: N/A
    User: S-1-5-18
    User Name: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
    Computer: ed****-PC
    Description:
Some processor performance power management features have been disabled due to a known firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.
Please check at the manufacturer's website for an updated BIOS.

Numerous errors involving Cryptography services and Avast - this is most likely either an infection or a corruption of Avast. I suggest scanning with an independent scanner to determine if Avast is corrupted. Here's links to free online scanners: Free Online AntiMalware Scanners (read the details at the link)

If the scans come up clean, then please:
    - download a fresh copy of Avast (DON'T install yet!)
    - uninstall the current copy of Avast
    - use this free tool to remove any remnants of Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html
    - then install the fresh copy of Avast and IMMEDIATELY update it!

Use the tool to remove the remnants of Avast - it could be that those are causing a problem.
Ensure that Microsoft Security Essentials is working also - try a Quick Scan with it.

We don't worry about warnings/errors in the event viewer logs. We use them IF you're experiencing problems in Windows. Are you still having problems with freezing?

so far so good , no freezes in 2 days , the known firmware problem is still showing in the event viewer , but i can handle that if it stays running like it is at the moment

Ty John for all your help
