Bugcheck code 101 BSOD

Hi,
I running Winodws 7 x64 Professional. A couple days ago i started getting blue screens whenever i was trying to convert a .mkv file to DVD and burn it, i thought this was just a problem with the software i was using so tried a different version and i was getting the same.
Now it happens with different software and also doing other video editing.

I've done a bit of researching and people talk about having an overclocked system...i dont.
Others have talked about overheating...is this what is happening or is it something more serious?
I've had this computer for just over a year now and not had this problem until a couple days ago.
I was planning to do a reinstall soon so i did one just after this started happening and it still happens.

Bugcheck 101 is mainly caused by a defective CPU or outdated BIOS

Go to your motherboard's website and check your version of your BIOS. See if there are any problems you are having that are solved by a a later version. I do not often recommend flashing the BIOS because there is a risk involved. If there is problem addressed by a BIOS that applies to your computer, consider flashing your BIOS to the latest version. If you choose to do this, flash you BIOS outside of Windows.

Run Prime 95 again to test your CPU and your ram. Carefully the instructions in this tutorial: CPU - Stress Test with Prime95. Run 3 separate tests, one on each of the settings (Blend, Small FFTs, Large FFTs). Post back with your results.

Sorry for the delay in posting back. I thought i had fixed it but i havent!

When running Prime95 i get this error (which was after about a minute and then my computer locked up):
[Wed Apr 20 16:43:30 2011]
FATAL ERROR: Resulting sum was -4.506720689110671e+229, expected: 3115903093188443
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

I believe my GPU and CPU are overheating. I've just installed Speedfan which is telling me that they are too hot.
This would also make sense as i get these crashes while burning a DVD or video editing (and i guess anything else CPU intensive).

Speedfan is indicating that my GPU is 62C and CPU was at 53C when it started. Removing the side of my case has reduce CPU temp to 47C while GPU is staying the same

Clean your PC and replace the Thermal Paste, dust can cause overheating.
If Prime95 still reports errors even if nothing is overheating you should replace your CPU :)

I've removed all dust i could and reseated heatsink. Got temps down to 42C and Prime95 seems to be running ok now. Havent had chance to let it run for a few hours yet though.

I might buy a new heatsink as i've only got a stock one.

On many other foums, the only time I have seen anyone fix this particular problem was by replacing their CPU either through a warranty or just buying another one. I would stay away from older Penom or Intel. Get the newer CPU's like Phenom II series or better more current Intel.
