Asus G73SW Notebook BSODs

Hello Everyone,

Got my Asus G73SW notebook about a week ago but it keeps throwing up BSODs randomly. I don't have to run some resource intensive programs, sometimes it even occurs when being idle on my desktop or starting up windows. I hoped SP1 would fix it but to no avail so you are my last hope.

System specs:

Model: Asus G73SW-TZ083V
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 OEM (SP1 installed)
CPU: Intel Core i7 2630QM
Memory: Samsung DDR3 1333
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M
Sound: Intel® High Definition Audio Support
Display: 17.3" 1920x1080
Hard Drives: 2x SATA 500 GB 7200rpm

System health report + Dump file attached, let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks a lot,
John M.

I have the same issue but with an ASUS G53JW and it is so annoying. My BSOD problems started a month after I got it back from the repair centre though.

Mine hasn't been to any repair yet, it's fresh from the press. Though our specs are different.

Anybody?

Nobody has any idea what could be causing my BSOD's?

Hi and welcome,
I apologize for the delay.

Please uninstall ZoneAlarm (known BSOD cause) and install SP1: Learn how to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
        use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
Arg2: 0000000080050031
Arg3: 00000000000406f8

Thanks for your reply Dean, +rep.

As I said in my OP I've already installed SP1 but that didn't fix the BSOD's.

I now removed Daemon Tools and Zone alarm. However, the link you gave me for the SPTD uninstaller doesn't seem to be right. I downloaded this file (64 bit) but when I run it it says it would not be a valid win32 application?

Thanks for the alternative to daemon tools, I'll use that instead. Do you also have an alternative for Zone alarm? I found that to be the best firewall so far.

Thanks again,
John M.

Windows Firewall runs fine. However, if you don't like using Windows Firewall, then try Comodo Firewall
Apparently; in the latest dump, SP1 wasn't mentioned at all...

Try run the SPTD.exe in admin mode (right click on the file and click run as administrator)

Thanks for the firewall alternative. Interesting, since the SP1 install I still had BSOD's but it seems they haven't created a dump then?

I tried to run the SPTD uninstaller as administrator but the same error shows up "not a valid win32 application"

Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers, find sptd.sys and rename it to sptd.old. Then reboot the system.
