Random BSODs; Firefox 4 random crashes

I recently built a new desktop PC running a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit retail version (see my system specs). All hardware was purchased new, and all software installed were fresh installs. All Windows Updates were applied successfully, including SP1. I have also updated all drivers using manufacturer supplied drivers online as well as through Windows Update. BIOS is flashed to latest manufacturer version, and RAM timings were tightened to rated specs (default 9-9-9-24 at 1.5V, rated for 7-7-7-21 at 1.5V).

After using my system for a day or two, I started getting frequent Firefox application crashes (several times a day). These manifested themselves by abruptly exiting out of Firefox and bringing up the Crash Report manager; no freezing up or unresponsiveness of any sort was involved. I am using Firefox 4 with no third-party add-ons except for AdBlock Plus. I also received several BSOD's (three, I believe), one of which is MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (0x1A). The BSOD's occurred randomly while browsing or doing other tasks, and did not appear to be triggered by any given event. My uTorrent application also crashed once not long after a Firefox crash, but this was a one-time event.

I have run memtest86+ for one pass on each of my sticks of ram individually, and 5+ passes on the two sticks together, with no errors. This is my first time building a PC, and I have previously only used Windows 7 32-bit. Since all of the hardware is new, I am wondering whether there could be a hardware issue, or whether the root cause is software-related. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Well both crashes were memory related and since the machine uptime was over 5 hours for both I suspect it is software related. Memtest tests outside of the windows environment and so is only testing the ram and mobo itself, not the way it is working in windows.

To be really accurate memtest should be run on each stick and in each slot for 5 or more passes ( takes a long time I know)

The fact you are running utorrent doesnt exactly instill confidence in me for it is by nature buggy, but I am still placing my bet on the ram

In order to find if there is a driver within windows causing you grief you should run driver verifier

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

    Then, here's the procedure:
    - Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
    - Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
    - Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
    - Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Thanks for the reply, zigzag! When running Drive Verifier (DV) with all of the settings you specified (all non-MS drivers, all tests except Low Resources), my machine would boot until the Windows 7 logo "Starting Windows...", but after waiting 20+ minutes, it still would not reach the login screen.

I cleared DV settings in Safe Mode. Then I narrowed down the possible sources of error using a binary search on the set of tests. I found that I was able to successfully boot and login on all tests except "Force pending I/O requests" (which requires that the "I/O verification" test be run simultaneously). I promptly got a BSOD upon boot before reaching the logo when I used those two tests with all non-MS drivers selected.

I have attached the new dump.

EDIT: I did some more testing with DV and found that I would also BSOD with the test "IRL Logging". A new dump is attached (dumps3.zip)

To verify my results, I reran all Drive Verifier tests that generated BSOD's. My conclusions are that whenever "Force pending I/O requests", "IRL Logging", or both tests simultaneously are enabled, I will always get a BSOD. A new dump (dumps4.zip) is attached with all BSOD's from my tests. Could someone please read the minidumps starting from 4/15/11 to discover the driver(s) causing the problem? Thanks!

Thanks (+REP to you!); uninstalling Daemon Tools solved the DV BSOD's. I have also decided to simply not use SpeedFan; I have found a better alternative. The Realtek drivers you linked to are not for my particular onboard NIC though...so I am leaving them alone. Hopefully my system is stable now; will report back if any more problems arise.

I just got another BSOD, this time while booting up my computer; the minidump is below. This is after checking that all non-Microsoft drivers work on all tests in Driver Verifier.

On the other hand, I haven't experienced a Firefox crash ever since uninstalling Daemon Tools. I take that back; got several Firefox crashes this morning. Could someone please check the minidump for me please? Thanks!

This driver verified enabled dump pointed to your video card drivers as the ones that caused the crash. I would start off by uninstalling the video device from device manager, rebooting the computer and then when it boots back up, install the latest drivers from here
