BSOD when copying files via wired network

Hi

I'm having this blue screen problem on my desktop after I updated to Windows 7 SP1. I always get a BSOD(0x0000007F - UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP) every time I copy files from my laptop via wired network. The dump file is attached, can somebody take a look and give advise?

Thanks a lot.

Hi tonio and welcome to the forum. We need more information than the dump file alone gives and one dump file is not very conclusive. Please read this tutorial, follow the instructions and post back. We will be glad to help you. http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

That said I looked at your dump file. It is bugcheck 7E and blames a Windows system core file which is highly unlikely to be the real cause.

1. Update your chipset drivers using the link provided; in particular, this driver should be update:
Quote:
nvhda64v.sys Fri Jun 26 18:54:59 2009 - nVidia HDMI Audio Device (nForce chipset driver). Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
Also, update this driver through the link provided:
Quote:
RTKVHD64.sys Mon Jul 06 05:18:54 2009 - Realtek High Definition Audio Function Driver. Realtek
2. Install this Microsoft hotfix:
Stop error message when you run an application that transfers data by using the UDP protocol in Windows Server 2008 R2 or in Windows 7: "STOP 0x0000007F"

See if these two steps improve your system's stability. Please post back and let us know.

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
        use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:

Hi Carl,

I appreciate your kindly help. I attached the entire dump folder and the health report(Chinese version, not sure if you can read it) for your reference.

I followed your instruction to update the audio drivers. For the hotfix(Windows6.1-KB981180-x64.msu), it cannot be installed on my PC. The problem is still there however.

Thanks for the complete package. Some of it does not help due to the language barrier; but some of it is in English. I looked at the three dumps that you uploaded and all three are bugcheck 7F - usual causes: Usual causes: Insufficient disk space, Device driver, Video card, BIOS, Breakpoint with no debugger attached, Hardware incompatibility, Faulty system service, Memory, 3rd party remote control. Two of the dumps blame a Windows system core file and the other blames the system driver, tcpip.sys, this driver controls the IP protocol and enables you to connect to the internet. It is highly unlikely that it is the cause of the crash; something else conflicted with it. Good job on updating the drivers. Perhaps SP1 includes the hotfix and that is why it will not install.

What USB devices do you have connected? Are your running any third party security programs besides Avast antivirus. Third party security programs can cause the 7F error code. Usually Avast runs well with Win 7.

I suggest that that you enable Driver Verifier. Carefully follow the instructions in this tutorial: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable. Use your computer normally while Verifier is running. If Driver Verifier encounters a faulty driver, it will trigger a BSOD; upload any and all Verifier enabled dump files.

Depending on what we find or don't find with Verifier will determine what we do next.

Arguments:

Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
Arg2: 0000000080050031
Arg3: 00000000000406f8

Thanks for the response. I do not connect any USB device on the pc and the windows 7 environment is near clean. Just few 3rd party softwares including Avast, TVersity and Klite codec installed, no other security program is running.

I enable the verifier and get the same BSOD, the dump file is also attached.

I believe this issue is caused by Avast. After I remove Avast antivirus, the problem is gone. There could be issues between windows 7 SP1 and Avast program.

Thanks a lot.

If you removed Avast check there website for a complete uninstaller.
A lot of times AV programs put so many HOOKS into the system that a normal uninstall does not get rid of all the parts/pieces. Most AV software vendors have a program to completely remove there program.

Glad you got it fixed.
