    New windows Install, Bsod

    Hi:

I just recently acquired a win7 pro 64 thru work. Loaded it on my machine and have gotten 2 bsod in 2 days.

Most of my system is 2-3 years old. However, Ive had the PSU, and GPU recently RMA'd.

Uploaded, attached a zip file as per the instructions.

    Any help would be excellent.

    THANKS!

The most glaring thing is asacpi.sys (your version 2005)

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

The 2005 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.
Please visit this link: ASUS teK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D LE
Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).
    Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).

Hi Thebluemeow and Welcome to the Forum. Aah well, zigzag beat me to it, but I'm not throwin' all this typin' away!!

    STOP 0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    Usual causes:
Defective hardware (particularly memory - but not just RAM), Faulty system service, Antivirus, Device driver, NTFS corruption, BIOS.

Your latest dump file lists win32k.sys as the probable cause. This is a Windows System file and for it to be the cause of your crash is highly unlikely.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes.

    As a Priority:

ASACPI.sys Mon Mar 28 03:30:36 2005 This driver is notorious for causing BSOD's. There is an update here: Asus ATK0110 driver. Look under the sub-heading: Utilities. Approx. 12th one down.

RTCore64.sys RivaTuner or EVGA Precision. Has known issues with Windows 7. Uninstall

    If blue screens continue:
Run Memtest86+ overnight, after your computer has been off for about an hour or two so it has a cold start. Let it run for at least 7 passes / 6-8 hours. If errors appear before that you can stop that particular test.
Note!! Any time Memtest86+ reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad Mobo slot. Test RAM sticks individually. When you find a good one then test it in all slots. Post back with the results.Bugcheck Analysis:

    Thanks for the speed reply!

I will install the new atk0110 as well as unistall evga precision. Any other GPU monitoring devices you recommend?

Also, due to past problems, ive run memtest over night once, and it turned up error free.

    Update:

I unistalled evga precision as well as installed the new atk0110. However, in doing so, I received another BSOD. (ASACPI.sys)

    STOP 0x000000C9: DRIVER_VERIFIER_IOMANAGER_VIOLATION
    Usual causes:
    Driver verifier

Your latest dump file lists ASACPI.sys Mon Mar 28 03:30:36 2005 as the probable cause. This is the driver mentioned above.

Turning on Driver Verifier with known rogue drivers installed will give you instant BSOD's. That's what Driver Verifier does, forces rogue drivers to crash. It should be used to force unknown rogue drivers to show themselves. I'm curious as to why you turned on DriverVerifier?

    As a Priority:

    Turn off Driver Verifier.

Replace the old ASACPI.sys driver with the newer version. Asus ATK0110 driver. Look under the sub-heading: Utilities. Approx. 12th one down. When installed go to C:\Windows\system32\drivers, right click the ASACPI.sys driver and check the dates in its properties to make sure it has been replaced/installed properly. The downloaded files modified date on my PC are (64bit) 14/05/2009 and (32bit) 13/05/2009.

    For Info:
    Driver Install - Manual method

    1. Download the driver and extract it to a folder
    2. Open the Device Manager
    3. Right click the device you wish to change the drivers for. You can select Properties > Driver > Driver Details to check you have the right device.
    4. Choose Update Driver Software.
    5. Select Browse My Computer For Driver Software.

    STOP 0x00000117: VIDEO_TDR_TIMEOUT_DETECTED
    Usual causes:
    Video driver/sub-system

A BcCode 117 indicates that the "display driver failed to respond in a timely fashion". In other words, your video drivers are given a command and they take too long to respond. Windows thinks there is something wrong so blue screens your PC to protect the system.
Usually the drivers are not up to the task in hand. It's my favoured way of forcing a (harmless) BSOD on my PC with only the on board graphics to rely on.

But this is curious seeing as how you have a graphics card installed. I'd suggest "re-setting" your video drivers.
    Download the latest nVidia Drivers
    Download and install Driver Sweeper.
    Boot to Safe Mode
Uninstall your current Graphics Driver SetUp.
Run Driver Sweeper to clean up any left overs.
    Reboot to Normal Mode.
Install your newly downloaded Graphics Driver SetUp.

As a secondary thought I'd suggest upgrading to SP1 (nothing to do with your graphics issue.). But make sure to back up your system first!

    Yes. It is curious....and annoying.

I was checking through windows updates and it had another and more recent driver for card than nvidia has. The nvidia one is dated in jan of this year while windows updates version is dated in feb. Also, while playing the game, I got bad flickering. The game thought I want using the most current drivers via a message it gave me. But, I am.

I just did a fresh reinstall because things were getting worse.

After reinstall I just used the drivers windows installed for the graphics. I tested it and it worked fine until a few minutes into a game. Then I got a bunch of Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered. I kept getting them even after I exited the game. I got them even in windows until the computer just locked up. I then installed current vid drivers fresh from NVIDIA. This time it just froze in game. I dont get bsod anymore, just lock ups. Is it possible that the most current asacpi is worse than the old one? At least when I was using that one it worked for a few days with just a couple of BSOD. Now I am unable to even play games.

I have some LiveKernel dumps. Would it help for you guys to check them out?
