Windows 7: Computer won't restart: "Root cause found: Boot critical file D:\CI.dl

I was using the computer when all of a sudden it shut down. When I turn it back it on, it automatically tries to do a Startup Repair. After several minutes, I get the message: "Startup Repair cannot this repair this computer automatically." When I click on "View problem details," everything looks fine except for "Root cause found: Boot critical file D:\CI.dll is corrupt." This happens every time I try to retart the computer. I've tried System Restore and System Image Recovery to no avail.

1. Insert the Windows installation DVD into the DVD-ROM; Click Exit if the auto-menu pops up.
2. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
3. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow

I inserted the DVD and closed the Install Windows menu, but the computer restarts, and Startup Repair automatically opens. Now when I check the Diagnosis and repair details after Startup Repair is done, I get "Root cause found: Startup Repair has tried several times but still cannot determine the cause of the problem." So, I can't even get to the Start button/elevated command prompt/Run.

Not sure if this is important, but a few months ago due to a virus, I had to do a complete factory re-install.

Try replacing the ci.dll. If you ask nicely, somebody on a 64 bit system can upload their own copy of ci.dll. The file is located in C:\windows\system32. Sorry I'm right now on a 32 bit.

Copy the uploaded file to a bootable flash drive, then boot from the flash drive and copy the dll over to c:\windows\system32. Reboot normally.

Ok Carolyn Thank U for the help :-) and as for what i wrote earlier that was the result of me not typing in the right thing so i had to do it over twice smh. But everything went accordingly the last time all but part 18- Type copy *.* .. and press <ENTER> to copy the backup hive files to \Windows\System32\config.If you are prompted to overwrite existing files, press A to allow all file to be overwritten. when I tried this it said files cannot be copied onto it self do u think this is because i did it more than once? And once again thank U
