    BSOD on sleep or hibernate

I have a persistent problem when sleeping or hibernating my machine.
On sleep or hibernating, the screen goes blank, hard discs is active for a while then it just stops but power remains on. I have to hold the power button to turn it off or if on batteries it will stay like that until it runs out of power.
On startup I get the message 'windows was not shut down properly...' with the choice of safe mode or normal startup.
Needless to say this is pretty annoying since I have to wait for system to start again and all my programs are lost.

I have trawled various forums in search of a fix but nothing has worked.
I resorted to wiping the partition and reinstalling windows but that hasnt helped so was a great waste of time. I resinstalled from the recovery cd that came with the notebook but the driver cd provided was for XP and not win 7 so I downloaded what I could from the samsung website but there are still a few things missing. however this doesnt appear to be the cause since the same problem persists as the factory install.

    machine is samsung p560 notebook intel duo p8700 2.53ghz, 32 bit windows 7 pro sp1, 3GB ram

dump file is the same for each occurence.

    please can anyone help ?

    solved

after quite a few months I have solved this now.
Turns out it was a utility called Connectify which is very handy as turns your machine into a local wifi hotspot but alas seemed to give sleep/hibernate issues with the lan/wifi cards. Disabling the service didnt help but total uninstall did.
shame but its better than the alternative of no sleep/hibernate function !

I ran some of the latest memory dumps just to see what info they gave.
Interestingly, they point to both your wired and wireless network drivers as being the cause.
Buy you've found a different solution.

But it also shows a driver file from 2000 named memio.sys (which likely isn't compatible with Win7). This file is most likely either a virus or an outdated component of a Samsung program. I'd scan for malware first, and if clean I'd then remove the Samsung programs. Then check to make sure that the memio.sys driver has been removed.

After all that, then try Connectify again to see if it works properly.
    Good luck!
