    BSOD on Acer Aspire 5745g

First time poster on this forum.

    I have an Acer Aspire 5754g that encounter a BSoD. The HDD is a WD6400BEVT - 22A0RT.

When starting up / waking from hibernation a recieved an error saying that the waking had been currupted and needed a restart. I said ok, hit ENTER and watched restart.

It procedded to restart as normal, and then after pausing on the Stating Windows page for a while with the green load progress bar frozen went to a BSoD:
    UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

I looked around the net and tried a few things as listed below:

    1. Tried to launch startup repair:
    - Progresses startup until Black screen with only a mouse (mouse moves)
    - If i lefty for about 5 min i eventually loads a blue/green backgroup with white swirls and a mouse (mouse still moves.)
    - No fiurthur progress

    2. Booting into safe mode.
    - BSoD same as normal windows start.

    3. Last known good configuration:
    - Same as safe and normal loading

    4. Booted a Win 7 Recovery/Repair Disc burnt from iso image from three different locations. (1 x torrent newegg, 1xiso newegg, 1xother location)
    - None worked, all got to same stage as the startup repair (Step 1)

    5. Booted an Ubuntu Live CD 10.10.
    - Copied across most files i needed
    - Checked out drive status. HD had 167 Errors under the section
    - Tried to use ntfsfix and another ntfs tool however was prevented by the system and after more research realised i should leave that as a last resort.

    6. Downloaded a WD diagnostic HDD tool.
    - Didnt load

    7. Downloaded a SeaGate diagnostic tool.
    - Loaded and ran tests
    - Short test <- Failed in seconds
    - Long test <- Completed test but failed with 70 errors.
    - Cannot attempt to repair as it is not a seagate HDD

    8. Re-loaded Ubuntu to check disk errors. Now reports no error when checking unmounted drive but when mounted complains about no online compatabilioty for fsck tool for file system, which i believe stems from the fact it is NTFS.

I am trying to find a way to run chkdsk or fsck however i dont know how to do this if i cant log into windows in some for and get access to a CMD.

So suggestions on how i can get this access or some steps to solve? I am realistic in the sence that i know ill probably need a new disk however if i can recover it temp then best option.

What Hard Drive do you use?
This sounds like a faulty hard drive to me according to the SeaTools results.

If you use a Western Digital HDD, then you may want to try this diagnostic tool: WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD RE2

    I have an Acer Aspire 5754g that encounter a BSoD. The HDD is a WD6400BEVT - 22A0RT.

I did try a version of that tool although I know it wasn't that one as the ver I tried was for all windows from 98 onwards from memory.

I will try this tool. I may have made significant progress on this ... I'll check back in a few hours with more but have managed to get the repair disc to finally run properly. Not sure if it was something I did or not though...

Thanks for the fast response :)

If the WD HDD Test fails, then you may want to return the laptop if it is still in warranty.
