    EXPLORER.EXE problem


    Hey guys! So the other day I restored my computer. When it finished and restarted I got to where the desktop should be but it was a black screen. I tried ctrl alt delete and noticed explorer.exe was not there. So I tried to run it. When I did that explorer.exe appeared as running but there was still a black screen? Then explorer.exe disappeared from the task manager.

    When I booted into safe mode the desktop came up but when I click on things like my computer I get a message that I dont have admin privileges.

    Could it be a virus? If so how to you scan the registry for viruses or specifically scan explorer.exe for virus?

    Any ideas?

    Hello,

    Why did you restore your computer? Was there a problem with it before?

    Try booting up in Safe Mode and then creating a new user account. Does that one have the same trouble?

    The computer was running really slow so my bro decided it would be a good idea to restore it to the day before when it wasn't running as slow. (Stupid) Any way I will try what you said but I thought you couldn't make a user account in safe mode. Also when in safe mode I click on things and it says you do not have admin privileges.

    I've just checked, it is possible to create a new user account from Safe Mode.

    Boot up the Windows DVD or repair disc, and select "Repair my computer". Open a command prompt and enter:
    Code:
    sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows
    If you don't have a repair disc or DVD, you can create a repair disc: System Repair Disc - Create
