Ok. I thought I didn't need it since I had previous updates, but my Network Security professor said we should get it. I heard they already have SP2 also?

The automatic update failed. I downloaded the update manually, but it says it failed because I am missing necessary Windows components. So what now?

Did it give you an error code?

Run the system update readiness tool

I got the update to download through Windows Update, but it still says I am missing Windows components. Could it have anything to do with the corrupted files sfc couldn't fix? Microsoft's website says to reinstall Windows and try installing the service pack again, but I want to avoid that if possible.

I did the in-place upgrade. It worked, and I could activate Windows online with no problems. The service pack installed fine, and a new sfc scan found no discrepancies.

Thank you for all your help, and I guess I'm good for now unless I get a BSOD again.
