Acer 8935g overheating - graphics card issues?

Hi I have had a good look around these forums searching for an issue I have with my acer aspire 8935g laptop. It overheats especially with games and will BSOD if I dont have a aircon unit pointing at the pc!

I have tried updating my ATI drivers but am having issues as none of the reported fixes work for me.

I would also dearly love to wipe the machine and load a fresh install of win 7 as I am on a upgrade from vista home premium at present. I cannot do this as acer have disabled my bios so that I cannot - not sure if this is related but this is the first pc I have had that has a non adjustable bios...

I am not sure if I am using the ATI card at all and I dont really see much difference graphics wise from my old dell inspiron 9300 asides from the resolution.

I also have the acer partitions for recovery and the totally bizarre acer arcade thing that launches when you push the second power button next to hold if this makes a difference. Everyone else seems to be talking about their clean machines

Let me know if I have missed anything vital and please feel free to leave some clues even if you think they are basic - I am simply lost with this problem and most of the ways I would start to look at solving it seem to have been disabled by acer!
