Windows 7: Black Screen on Windows Boot

Black Screen on Windows Boot

Hello, I really need help with this issue. I'm trying to fix my girlfriend's laptop, a Sony Vaio running Windows 7 Ultimate x32. When I power it on the Vaio logo appears and after it a black screen with a blinking underscore. No key works, except F2. I tried many ways, some described in this Forum, however nothing has worked so far.
I ran Windows Recovery from a USB and there ran Startup Repair like a dozen times. Tried to rebuild bcd by running bootrec.exe with its commands, more than a time, but no success. Ran Ubuntu Live CD , all the files and folders are in place, boot folder is were should be. Tried to build bcd using lilo and still no change.
All this happened after Ghost was interrupted during its running, because battery ran out and she forgot to plug it. Please, HELP !!!!
After three days I do not know anymore what to do. If no luck, I will go with Ubuntu, since I cannot reinstall Win 7 without the CD.

I cannot run it.
"There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete...."
I have rebooted like five times, still the same error. Also removed and put back the RAMs, battery, unplugged, same message. Look like my bad day

Try running from a command prompt:
chkdsk c: /f
The command for running SFC from outside of Windows is a bit different; run this instead:
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

chkdsk c: /f
ran successfully and found no errors on system file.

When I ran the second command I got this:

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.
And an window popped up with this message:

sfc.exe - bad image

is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
Try installing the program again using the original installation media
or contact your administrator or the software vendor for support.

On c: dir I found C:/boot folder where is a backup BCD file dated before the crash. Is there a possibility to replace the BCD with this one and make the OS boot-able?

Or if not, since I do not have recovery CDs:
Is there a recovery partition in this system, since I seems unable to find it?
And if it is hidden how can I access it when all the F-keys do not respond during the boot?
I am tired with this, and am ready to do a factory reset if possible.

To rebuild the BCD, you can run this command from the command prompt:
bootrec /rebuildbcd
If you can post the model of the laptop, I might be able to confirm this, but a preliminary Google search reveals Vaios don't come with recovery partitions; you would have needed to create recovery discs before the problem started.

You might start some hardware diagnostics running as well. Run from a command prompt:
chkdsk /r
Also, run: SeaTools for DOS | Seagate

For RAM: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Post the results of the tests when you can.

I have rebuild BCD many times nothing happened. chkdsk /r didn't show any error, same with Memtest86+. I replaced BCD with BCD_backup_0001 , (something like that) that was dated before the crash, however same black screen. Partition Magic didn't find any hidden partitions, so there is no recovery option. Therefore after a week of frustration and convincing my gf I installed Ubuntu and the laptop runs like new.
Thanks to all of you that tried to help. I really appreciate it.
