Windows 7: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT BSOD during the night

MEMORY_MANAGEMENT BSOD during the night

I woke up to find Windows saying it closed unexpectedly with a BSOD.
I am not sure what caused it, though WhoCrashed said MEMORY_MANAGEMENT.

Besides crashing, the BSOD, I think, also messed up Steam's file in a recognized way. Dunno if that helps.

Attached is the zip with requirements by the topic guidelines.

As for my system:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
Clean re-install using my own retail disk from Sunday this week.
Obviously not the original OS. I'd say this would be its 3rd or 4th installation.
The hardware is about... I think a year and a half old though it was looked over recently by techies and I think they found nothing wrong.

I am hoping this is sufficient info.

hi anaxim,

The dump file blames the crash on
Code:
VBoxNetAdp.sys Tue Apr 26 08:37:32 2011 (4DB6BC8C)
Which is part of your Virtualbox setup. Since it is a new setup you don't have any old drivers to roll back to.
So first course of action would be de-install/re-install Virtualbox to exclude a faulty installation.

I ran a precautionary driver update. How would I uninstall Virtualbox? Not even sure I have it.

Well, if you don't have it you certainly load all the drivers for it But if you're not sure if you have it, you don't use/need it so skip the re-install.
Try this method (only for the automatic removal I would use this one Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems )

Nope...no relations. OK let's cover the bases

Run this for 7 or 8 passes:
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

and this one (just keep an eye on your system temperatures
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html

If that is all to no avail the next step is this:

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

and make sure to post all new crash dumps (if DV finds anything the computer will crash..that's the idea

Don't mean to rain on your parade...

You ran/pasted the wrong dump information. There is nothing talking about Vbox in his dump

Your single dump was a MEMORY_MANAGEMENT bugcheck. Continue with the tests that Sledge suggested.

Please run these tests and report back the results
1. Memtest86 - Run for 7-8 passes - RAM - Test with Memtest86+
2. Prime95 - Run all three tests for 3-4 hours each or until fail - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html

Just so I'm clear on this:
Memtest can be run overnight, though I'm not sure if it can do enough passes in an 8 hour window.
Prime95 appears to run actively, but I assume I need to let it run alone but watched.
I'll also go on a limb and assume neither can harm my computer.

Given all that, and that I need my computer running at least until the 15th, how much can I delay these? Tonight and tomorrow I can't run them at all since I need to work.

Memtest should be run overnight.

Prime95 needs to be monitored for the first 15-20 minutes to make sure your temps are stable. If after 15-20 minutes the temps stop going up then you can let it run overnight. You need to run all three tests though. You can delay it as long as you want, we just can't help you anymore until you run the tests and report back the results.

The only way it can harm your computer is if the CPU overheats because you didn't monitor the temps for the first 15-20 minutes

Also, don't forget to run the disk check and hard drive scan.

Ok. Thanks.
I'll see about running those soonest. This BSOD landed on me during a fairly crowded time in my schedule.
