BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO (74)
Can indicate that the SYSTEM hive loaded by the osloader/NTLDR
was corrupt. This is unlikely, since the osloader will check
a hive to make sure it isn't corrupt after loading it.
It can also indicate that some critical registry keys and values
are not present. (i.e. somebody used regedt32 to delete something
that they shouldn't have) Booting from LastKnownGood may fix
the problem, but if someone is persistent enough in mucking with
the registry they will need to reinstall or use the Emergency
Repair Disk.

Hi, I have a registry cleaner (CCleaner) which I use fairly often. I do have an anti virus installed (MSE) so I was surprised that the report said I never, not sure why it did that.
I will uninstall Daemon tools and install the service pack. Is it these two that are causing the problems?
Thanks for the response. | My System Specs

The easiest way to solve that would be to completely un-install and re-install MSE How to manually uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials if you cannot uninstall it by using the Add or Remove Programs item

I'm having trouble installing SP1, the update keeps failing and I get the code 80070017. Anyone know how I can get past this? | My System Specs

Error 80070017 usually means you had a failed CRC (cyclic redundancy check) which points either to a corrupted download or a damaged Storage system (HDD, HDD- driver HDD -cable, HDD subsystem etc.)
If the installation via Windows update fails, you could try to download the install file for SP1 here: Download details: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

Can you fill in your 'System Specs' this will help anyone with the hardware issues.
The SP1 installation errors mentioned by SledgeDG can be caused by hardware or drivers, your drivers are up to date so let's run the hardware tests. Run a Disk Check on your OS drive. Then run the manufacturer HDD scanning tools, like these listed below but find the one for your HDD. Western Digital Lifeguard – Quick Test and Extended Test Seagate SeaTools – Short Drive Self Test and Long Drive Self Test Samsung ES tools – Drive Diagnostic test
Run the short and long tests, the long test may take several hours but must be done.
Report the test results here.
