BSODs often but not always
Hi all, I was wondering if I could get some help, some background:
My laptop has always had its graphics card run hot, so much so it would throttle down constantly. Asus released a BIOS update which helped immensely with this shortly after I got the laptop. It still throttles down occassionally when I have it on normal power mode and I'm playing a graphically intensive game. So I thought I would look for a fix. I downloaded the newest BIOS for my comp and flashed it, but I got bluescreens after. So I downloaded the older BIOS and flashed back to it, but bluescreens continue.
They are pretty constant, the first time I turn the computer on in the day it will bluescreen, but when it comes back on it doesn't always. When it doesn't bluescreen it runs perfectly, even if it is on for hours at a time. Moreover, the bluescreens are strange, the first bluescreen doesn't happen until I am already in windows, usually a minute or two after I log in and open up firefox. Bluescreens after that won't even let me get to the windows logon screen.
Other than flashing the BIOS I tried random things like updating my graphics driver and uninstalling Spybot, but nothing is changing the bluescreens. I'm hoping it's not a hardware thing, and it seems unlikely given the functionality when it does make it into windows.
My comp info:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Originally installed OS, came with system
Comp was bought in Sept of 09
Any help would be greatly appreciated
