    BSODs often but not always

Hi all, I was wondering if I could get some help, some background:

My laptop has always had its graphics card run hot, so much so it would throttle down constantly. Asus released a BIOS update which helped immensely with this shortly after I got the laptop. It still throttles down occassionally when I have it on normal power mode and I'm playing a graphically intensive game. So I thought I would look for a fix. I downloaded the newest BIOS for my comp and flashed it, but I got bluescreens after. So I downloaded the older BIOS and flashed back to it, but bluescreens continue.

They are pretty constant, the first time I turn the computer on in the day it will bluescreen, but when it comes back on it doesn't always. When it doesn't bluescreen it runs perfectly, even if it is on for hours at a time. Moreover, the bluescreens are strange, the first bluescreen doesn't happen until I am already in windows, usually a minute or two after I log in and open up firefox. Bluescreens after that won't even let me get to the windows logon screen.

Other than flashing the BIOS I tried random things like updating my graphics driver and uninstalling Spybot, but nothing is changing the bluescreens. I'm hoping it's not a hardware thing, and it seems unlikely given the functionality when it does make it into windows.

    My comp info:
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Originally installed OS, came with system
Comp was bought in Sept of 09

Any help would be greatly appreciated
      My Computer

I ran memtest and got no errors. I ran seatools and passed. I tried downloading the other one and the download hangs (win7 x64 version, I don't think I can use the x32 version right?).

I got more bluescreens today, started up in safemode w/networking fine, but I don't know if that means anything since I get occassional fine startups. Do you want me to include the new minidumps?

Yes. I would like to see the new minidumps. Have you tried downloading Prime95 in safemode w/ networking?

Enclosed are the minidump files, but I think I have more important info - I started up and again started getting bluescreens, so rather than go through the several startups I tried memtest and got thousands of errors for one of the sticks. Why do they work fine on some startups and not others? It is like the ram has to warm up. I assume the solution is I will have to get another stick of ram? How do I know it is the ram piece and not the slot?

Also forgot to add - One of the mirror sites for downloading the CPU tester hangs, but there is a link to switch to the alternate mirror, which downloads fine. I am running it now, but I assume the info won't be important.

I don't understand how memtest gets no errors over 7 passes after the computer is warm but errors when it is cold starting.

You can try the memory in different slots on the motherboard. If you continue to get errors then it's most likely bad RAM.

What is the exact model of your laptop? I would like for you to try updating your BIOS but I need the model # first to get you the right link.

EDIT: I didn't see that you said you already updated your BIOS.

Next question then. What are the specs of your memory (Make, model, speed, etc)?

My laptop is an Asus G72GX. I had updated my BIOS (which is when these problems first started, immediately after I updated the BIOS) but then I flashed back to the older version of BIOS and the problems continued. To clarify - I had no real problems with my comp other than graphics card ran hot, then I flashed the BIOS to newest version, and got bluescreens. I flashed BIOS back, bluescreens continue.

Asus calls my ram specs "DDR2 800 MHz SDRAM, 3 x SODIMM socket for expansion up to 6144MB SDRAM" which is all I know of it, I have 3 2GB sticks.

Download CPU-Z CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting and use the snipping tool to take a screen shot of the memory and speed tabs. Make sure you take one for each memory stick

    Example
    Attachment 155389
