    BSOD: Driver Power State Failure

Came back to a computer that won't shut down, restart or sleep properly. When it does it takes several minutes and at one time gave me the titular BSOD. Everything works fine in Safe Mode (go figure), so I've got a rogue driver in here and I can't for the life of me figure out which one's causing the trouble.

Other symptoms are slow startup (screen starts black for up to a minute after the welcome screen) and Device Manager hangs whenever I try to change (enable/disable, uninstall) drivers. I picked up a hotfix (KB977307) to alleviate the shut down/sleep symptoms but I'd like a little more information before I install it.

Aside from those symptoms there's no major hit to running performance. It looks like I can still use my main comp but I have to rely on hard power downs and jump through safe mode to turn on the computer. The device manager issue is such because I often have to reset my network adapter (Unid network kills my internet sometimes, working to fix that). This will become more of a problem when the next rounds of updates come knocking though.

    Basic Spec:
    Processor/Mobo/Memory Upgraded Feb 2011
    Windows 7 64-bit (x64) Ultimate
    Retail (received from MSDN)
    Installed Feb 2011

Run a system file check - SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please run these tests and report back the results
    1. Memtest86 - Run for 7-8 passes - RAM - Test with Memtest86+
    2. Prime95 - Run all three tests for 3-4 hours each or until fail - https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html
    3. Hard drive scan usings SeaTools - SeaTools for Windows | Seagate - Both long and short tests

    Update

2 passes on system file check reported no violations in integrity.

I was unable to run memtest yet (because my USB and Optical drivers were knocked out by the issue; couldn't load it to any media) so I decided to rip one of my memory sticks out and see how the system ran. Running on one stick, the system booted fine, restarted fine and was able to make driver changes without fail; the symptoms were gone.

For good measure I moved both memory sticks to Channel B and I'm having no troubles as of yet.

I'll still run the diagnostics you suggested and post the results promptly. Things are looking up though, thanks a lot.
