Toshiba Satellite Windows 7 will not start

I think we picked up a bug. My son was on and a pop up came up about a Java something and he clicked yes. The Windows defender freaked out saying we had a trojan virus. Then it crashed and burned. Now all it does is run the restart repair program which says it can not fix the problem. Anything I can do to get this running. It's my daughter's laptop and I would like to get it running. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

It is a Toshiba Satellite with Windows 7. I've tried the restart in safe mode and it did not help. Neither did the "last known good configuration" option.

I does this as it is trying to start windows and it the laptop did not come with a recovery disk.

Download and burn to CD BitDefender bootable AV scan, boot to run a Full Scan: FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs Download List. See if you are then able to boot into Win7 or Safe Mode with Networking to install and run a full scan with Malwarebytes

Next boot into System Recovery Options, accept any offered Repair. If Windows 7 doesn't start boot back in to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots. If repairs won't work from F8 Advanced Boot Options Repair console use WIn7 DVD Repair console or System Repair Disc - Create which don't depend on System files to run.

If this fails, boot back into DVD/REpair CD System Recovery Options to try System Restore, and SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot

If all fails you can attempt to copy out your files using DVD/Repair CD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Then either run Factory Recovery if an OEM, Recovery Disks, or use a Windows 7 DVD to clean reinstall. Toshiba Recovery

ok i will give that a shot. Unfortunately I don't have a recovery disk. It didn't come with one but I just read I guess it's on the laptop and I should have created one i guess. I'm not familiar with either windows 7 or laptops.

Oh one more thing. How do I boot to run a Full Scan when windows won't start up?

    Thanks for the reply.

Have a good read of gregrocker's post, click on all links.

You can download the Startup disk from here:
    System Repair Disc - Create

Oh ok. I did read it just trying to translate it all. Smart people can get my head to spinning sometimes. I will give it a try when I get home tonight.

    Thanks

Ok i'm stuck at the first point. I went to the first link and downloaded Active ISO burner and installed it. I gues I don't know what to do with it. The drop down box has nothing in it.

I've read the whole post it's just not making any sense to me.

Use ImgBurn to burn ISO at 4x speed with Verify: ImgBurn - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Open ImgBurn, click on file tab to load ISO, then burn Disk Image to CD.

Here is the download link for Bitdefender ISO: http://download.bitdefender.com/rescue_cd/

You'll likely need to repair System Files even if it will start. Try starting it after scan, next try starting in Safe Mode. Run SFC -SCANNOW Command repeatedly until all issues are resolved. You may also need to System Restore

If it won't start, follow the steps given in my first post to run Repairs from booted DVD or Repair CD.

Ok the scan found a couple things and they were deleted. Windows still wouldn't start. I let the start up repair do it's thing. It said it connot repair this computer automatically. This is what it said:
    Problem Signature:

    Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
    Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 03: unknown
    Problem Signature 04: 21200879
    Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
    Problem Signature 06: 3
    Problem Signature 07: NoRootCause

It then wanted me to finish to shut off the laptop. Now how do I open an elevated command prompt or system restore when windows will not run?
