Windows keeps freezing randomly - problem with usb dongle?

    Hi,

Windows keeps randomly freezing, forcing a hard reboot and occasionally I get a BSOD too.

I think it might have something to do with the external devices i have connected to my laptop: an external monitor, and an external keyboard with trackpad and an external mouse. Both the keyboard and mouse are wireless and share the same single usb receiver dongle (logitech unifying receiver)

I think it might be the driver for the usb receiver dongle that's causing the problems based on the dump file i've pasted below. Anyone have any suggestions for remedying this short of getting rid of the mouse and keyboard? Both have the latest drivers.

Thanks. See dump file text below.

The BSOD was caused by Atheros Bluetooth Driver.

Reinstall latest drivers following this method:

Click on the Start ► Control Panel ► Programs ► Uninstall a program ► Uninstall everything related to; Atheros. (Reboot if required). Delete remnants of its drivers/older drivers using Driver Fusion/Sweeper (Reboot again).

    Problematic software:
    Code:
Start Menu\Programs\Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security	mrmojo-PC\mrmojo:Start Menu\Programs\Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security	mrmojo-PC\mrmojo
Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security can often be a cause of BSOD-s. Please uninstall and use Microsoft Security Essentials only. Btw, keeping two antiviruses would cause conflicts anyway.

Recommended antivirus program for Windows 7 based on stability compared to others:-

Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

Run the System File Checker that scans the of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible:

    • Click on the
    • Type CMD on Search
    • Left click and Run as Administrator
    • Type SFC /scannow

    Full tutorial here:

Run Disk Check on your hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it:

Free up the start-up, nothing except the antivirus is usually needed.

    Let us know the results.

ok, so apparently i didn't solve it. i uninstalled both atheros published programs, but this got rid of my wireless connection. so i had to re install the wireless lan driver from my notebooks drivers cd.

the ahteros bluetooth driver is gone though

Please follow all suggestions requested & let us know if there are more BSOD-s.

If its wireless, match your device from here:
