    BSOD - Client's Dell Inspiron 1525

I have a client with a Dell Inspiron 1525 notebook that is crashing several times a day. The cooling fan was dead and I replaced it but the system is still crashing several times a day. He is running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit. I'm uploading his minidump files from earlier this week when I had the system and replaced the fan. Thought for sure it was crashing due to an overheating problem, the fan was dead.

Thanks in advance for your help.

We'll need more info on this in order to help - please provide this info: https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

One unknown driver shows up: qrsrgiig.sys
There are no google results when it's searched for, so that is suspicious and may suggest a malware infection.

Glancing through the memory dump analysis', the most significant thing (IMO) is the presence of hal.dll in the stack text. This implies that there's a problem with the system recognizing some attached device.
And, the drivers for both the Creative webcam (from 2007) and the Ricoh media card reader (from 2006) are very old - so they're prime suspects.

Please try updating or removing the following older drivers:
OLDER DRIVERS PRESENT IN THE DUMP FILES
    - Create a System Restore Point prior to doing any of this. DO NOT mess with the drivers themselves - leave the Windows\System32\drivers directory alone unless we specifically direct you to it!
    - Please update these drivers from the device manufacturer's website - or uninstall them from your system. Reference links are included below.
    - DO NOT use Windows Update or the Update Drivers function of Device Manager.
    - Please feel free to post back about any drivers that you are having difficulty locating.
    - Windows Update exceptions may be noted below for Windows drivers:

To get any further data, we'll need the info I requested above.
Also, running Driver Verifier according to the following instructions may reveal the faulting driver's name:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

    Then, here's the procedure:
    - Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
    - Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
    - Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
    - Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
    - Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
    - Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line:
    Code:
Delete these registry keys (works in XP, Vista, Win7):
            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDrivers
            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDriverLevel

    John,

Thank you for your response. Dell's product support site has updated drivers for most of the ones you listed. I know Dell isn't as proprietary as they used to be, should I update his drivers from there first as opposed to the manufacturers site? Most of the driver updates are "recommended". I believe his BIOS needs updating as well.

I grabbed a more recent minidump when I replaced the cooling fan. He had purchased, installed, and ran MalwareBytes' which seems to have removed the qrsrgiig.sys.

I'll get the machine back today, update the drivers you have listed and see if it stabilizes. If it still crashes, I'll get you the information you requested.

Once again, thank you for your assistance.

I'd get the Intel, Marvell, and Panda drivers from their respective manufacturer's (the links below contain a link to the support site for them).
The rest of the drivers aren't usually available from the manufacturer's website, so the Dell drivers should be fine. Just check the drivers to be sure that they are Win7 compatible.

Don't forget the antimalware scans. Malwarebytes is a great product, but malware removal requires several different programs (IMO). There are free versions listed here: http://www.carrona.org/malware.html (read the details at the link)
