well you can do that repair install, it doesn't take much time and shouldn't even mess with settings or anything much.

I agree that you may have a coincidental viral issue, or something was damaged by the surge. It may seem basic, but you were plugged in through a surge suppressor, right?

Try a repair install, and a thorough scan with your current AV, and maybe beyond that to Malwarebytes.

Thanks guys,

Unfortunately i was not using a surge suppressor, just a regular cheapy power bar.. My apc died and i haven't had time nor the money to get a new one. Anyway, I did run a full AV scan yesterday and i will try Malwarebytes today to see what comes back.

Is it much work to restore all of the shortcut or paths that point to the D: drive or would i have to run the installs for all of the programs i have installed to D:?

The repair install should leave all those programs working, though most the settings related directly to windows itself will be reset. So custom themes icon settings, stuff like that will all go back to default.

Excellent, Thanks again for the help. I ran Malwarebytes and it found 4 infections... clean them and restarted... still getting the errors :/

Anyway, i'll be running the repair install in a little while... pain in the butt but hey if the lose is minimal then no worries

Appreciate the help here, you guys are great!

The loss should be pretty minimal. It will just be some random settings and whatnot. I think it's the best option, as you have four infections, you probably have more lurking in some system files. Don't be afraid to run AV and AM software several times in a row
