    Power Outage now error messages

    Hi all,

We had a power outage over night and i leave my pc running all the time. When booting up this morning i was faced with the error "windows did not shut down properly" or something close to that... when i selected "start windows normally" it proceeded to perform disc error checking...appeared to be a lot of corrupt files... took a little while to complete and windows booted fine and i logged into my desk only to find the specified error message...

"C:\Windows\system32\ODBC32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try reinstalling the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support" In the frame of the error window is says "iTunes.exe - Bad Image"

System had been running flawless until the power outage and i do restart my pc frequently, i have Kaspersky Anti-Virus and it is Windows 7 64bit version.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

    Mike,

First and easiest thing would be to run a secure file check to ensure the windows core files are okay.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Did try that, the command line window disappears (no prompt the enter the Win7 installation disc) but the problem persists. Sorry i should have mentioned that! Also tried system restore to yesterday and that failed...

You may be in a repair install situation something important was obviously damaged in the surge.
    Repair Install
(you can also boot from the disk and do a repair install following the same instructions if you have too)

Nice, i'll give that a try however i wanted to advised that i have reinstalled my copy of Windows a couple times already... once due to a nasty virus and another because of hardware upgrade, i'm sure i will need to contact M$ because of this...

Secondly i have all of my programs installed on my D: drive, my C: contains the Windows installation and some selected programs that i wanted to have perform better as it is an SSD drive. Does this make it easier or more difficult to perform this fix? Was one of the reasons i chose to put all the programs on the D:

    Thanks!

I should have looked at your specs. I hope the ssd wasn't actually damaged by the power surge.
I would go to the manufacturer's site for the drive and download their check utilities just to be sure your drive is actually working properly still.

New issue arises... Downloading anything using 2 different browsers flags it as a virus and states it has been deleted... During this particular download (Utility for the SSD) i disabled the anti virus but it still says "virus detected - File has been deleted".

    Any ideas with this one?

that behavior in and of itself sounds viral.
Are there any new tray icons?

None that i have noticed, the system performs perfectly except for a few applications i.e. MSN, iTunes and i have onboard sound in my system which uses a utility for Creative Sound blaster Xfi. That software is also giving the same errors.

The only time these errors appear is when the system is rebooted or they are manually run...

I will most likely repair the system tomorrow, assuming it is fairly easy to recreate the shortcuts etc as i have everything installed to D:? There is very minimal on C: that i need to worry about so...
