Windows 7: Bsod - driver_power_state_failure

Bsod - driver_power_state_failure

Hello,
got a tricky problem. Machine usually runs fine for an hour or two, sometimes longer, but then it always starts to become slower and slower until it grinds to a halt (this process usually takes 3-10 min).

Could someone help me get my trouble-shooting in the right direct, I'm very bad in reading minidumps which seems be the only place to start looking right now.

I'm suspecting a driver issue, but not sure which one. Eventvwr usually shows no usefule information.

From time to time I do get a error reported in Eventwvr "A timeout (30 000 msec) was reached while waiting for a transaction reponse from N360 service.

The entire windows driver management is crashing...

The cyberlink software you are using is outdated and loading an old driver on your system. You should either remove or update it.

The sonic cd software is also outdated. We can do something rather simple to check if it's the culprit though
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename PxHelp20.sys to PXHelp20.BAK
This will break your CD/DVD program, but can easily be renamed after we've finished.

It also seems the system is having some sort of random issue unloading the symantec Heuristics Driver.
you may want to temporarily uninstall norton and replacing it with MSE
Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials

MSE is not as robust but it's free and doesn't cause conflicts.

Updated cyberlink, did not help. Looking at my installation history it seems this started to happen when I installed updated my Intel drivers (Matrix raid and south bridge driver). Could it be worth a try to revert to the OEM posted drivers? Shame about Norton and all conflicts... When it works it's a good comprehensive package. Have to think about an alternative.

reverting can't hurt anything, and you can always reapply the newer versions later if you want/need.

Still problems with system hanging...

I uninstalled Norton and installed MSE instead, but I got another BSOD yesterday anyhow. Could you help analyze Maguscreed. I'm totally frustrated.

BTW: any chance these "random" system hangs and BSOD could be caused by HW problems?

Do you have some sort of usb video device?
It seems to be the source of the issue.
At any rate this may fix the [power state message at least.

To Disable Selective Suspend:

open the control panel
go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
click change plan settings
in the window that opens:
click change plan settings
click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.

Code:
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f)
A driver is causing an inconsistent power state.

Sorry to bather you again. Changed the settings you suggested, removed some USB-devices (KVM, Wacom-board and USB-cam). Still got another BSOD. Any further advice? I'm beginning to consider clean install, but it's a major effort so if you could help pin-point problem that would save a good 2-3 days work.

Well the crash was caused by the windows driver foundation.
...which is actually something I haven't seen before personally.
As you already know the wacom stuff is outdated. I don't know where to find updated versions of those drivers though.

let's do something quick and easy here. Give this process a go.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
And I'm going to message another dump file reader to see if we can get some clarification here... maybe I'm missing something.

Did the SFC /SCANNOW 3 times, but overall no errors detected (I also attached the log file in case it reveals something). Then I got another BSOD later (usually system first becomes slow for a second, then works again for som minutes, then becomes unresponsive for a second, then works a few minutes and finally freezes up completly). Then it takes some hours until the actual BSOD occurs. I have a gut feeling it happens more often/quicker when I work in IE9, but eventually it happens regardless of which software I use. If I use a full-screen sotware (like a game) it feels like it takes most time, then I can sometimes run for 4-5 hours. Working normally I can usually work 1-2 hours before system becomes unreponsive.

Wacom drivers I have are the latest once they have published (I agree 2007 date on the Wacom mouse driver is very old). But as far as I can tell no newer ones can be found.
