    Random BSOD's

    Hello everyone!

These random BSOD's just drive me crazy, first my system specs followed by a small explanation.

    Attachment: Attachment 161310

    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    RAM: 2x 2GB GEIL 1333Mhz DDR3 (Dual Channel)
    CPU: Intel i5 750 @ 2.67 Ghz
    Mobo: MSI P55-GD45
    HD: Western Digital 250GB
PSU: Thermaltake 500/550 Watt (not entirely sure)
    GPU: ATI Radeon HD4870 1GB

    Story:
After a year of being stable all of a sudden some random blue screens appeared (most while playing a game, but also when idle or playing a movie). After a clean Windows 7 install the BSOD's were gone but the screen just randomly locked up (freezing) and there was a really weird sound from the speakers.

    Testing I did so far:
10 passes of memtest per RAM module and both with succes. Tried them in every slot.
10 hour GPU stress to check stability and temp: succes
12 hour CPU stress: stable and max temp was 54 degrees celcius
Tried to manually set the RAM timings (values obtained via vendor) and also tried to set it to 1066Mhz instead of 1333Mhz, no succes.

After a while I experimented with Snow Leopard on my PC... so formatted everything and installed OS X Snow Leopard with succes and the system NEVER locked up or what so ever. Now back to windows 7 and the blue screen only appeared once so far, but I know something is wrong. That's why there's only 1 dump file in the .zip file.

I really hope any of you can help me out. First I thought it was a hardware issue but after a succesful OS X Snow Leopard install I'm not sure anymore.

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers, Joey

The crash data is indicating memory corruption, However since you seem to have already cleared your memory of blame. I have to ask, has AVG been present in both installations?

It appears something is locking up your services, the number of hangs is pretty high.
My first avenue with this is to find what has remained common in the software environment through the clean install.

I ask about AVG specifically because it is rare but it has been known to develop problems on some win 7 systems.

    Code:
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: fffff8800dd8e3c0, memory referenced
    Arg2: 0000000000000002, IRQL
    Arg3: 0000000000000001, bitfield :
        bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
Arg4: fffff800028e0d05, address which referenced memory

Hi, thanks for your quick response.

To the AVG question: Yes, AVG was always present.

And one more question related to the memory testing:
I've tested both modules individually, is it also necessary to test both of them at the same time. Will this exclude a possible dual-channel malfunction?

What's also common in both install:
    ATI Drivers
    Ccleaner
    WinRAR
    Daemon Tools
    DropBox
Usual drivers: Realtek Ethernet, Chipset drivers.

I would think errors when testing both would point more towards the motherboard.
Are the chips a matched set?

Anyhow temporarily remove AVG in the meantime. You can use MSE as a temp, not quite as robust but it doesn't have any bsod issues with windows 7 . Anti-Malware, Virus, Spyware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials

Nothing stood out as pre win 7 in your driver info.
Daemon tools is another known problem causer. (windows 7 doesn't like it's virtual drive driver) Most people suggest dropping it and picking up magiciso here.

The RAM is indeed a matched set.
However, my BSOD's are way less than they used to be. After I set my RAM to 1066Mhz instead of 1333Mhz, this might as well be a coincidence.

Yeah after I've read about some daemon tools issues I started using PowerISO. Even without the mounting programs the system crashed tho.

I'll try to delete AVG. Uninstalling is enough or do I need a driver sweep as well?

I will post a new dump file when the system crashes without AVG and Daemon Tools (to be sure).

hard to go overkill when removing an AV, they really dig in there.

    Hey again,

I left my PC up and running to see if a BSOD would pop up. And we got a hit, this time it's a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. I tried to zip up the dump file but it isn't there!

I've my power management setup so it won't go to sleep, so it can't be a sleep problem.
I'm leaving my PC on for the day again to see if there's a new BSOD which hopefully will be saved in a dump file.

Do you have any clue what de DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE means?

EDIT: I think this one occured when shutting down, possibly a automatic update that called a reboot.
Rebooting or shutting down again won't give a BSOD.
