    Windows 7 32 bit BSOD - NETwlv32.sys

    Hi all,

Getting the BSOD's on Hp pavilion dv6000 (RE128PA#ABG) (> product info page DV6113tx), which has been occuring for at least 4-5 months since around march 2010. The laptop is old, going on 5 years from purchase brand new, though I can't afford a new one as I'm studying a bachelor degree and not employed.

    SYSTEM INFO (see system specs):

    W7 32 bit (home premium)
    Service pk 1
    Processor: Intel(R) Core (TM)2 CPU T5500 @ 1.66GHz, 1667 MHz, 2 Core(s), 2 logical Processors
    BIOS version/date: Hewlett-Packard F.2E, 22/03/2010
    SMBIOS version: 2.4

There are no W7 drivers available through my product page (only vista), though I run the drivers made for vista or those that HP update and windows update finds. I tried the Nvidia beta, except converted back in order to narrow down the cause of the problem.

I don't really want to do a clean install as I have an assignment overdue and 2 more I need to start on, but I think I am going to have to clean install. This would be a pain in the proverbial behind having to reinstall the programs I need and their updates and what not....I'm mentally at my limits, no...I'm beyond them.

I managed to delay the shutdown time a few days ago to allow me to take a pic of the BSOD for everyone to view. I haven't located the dump file, need to follow instructions on how to and hopefully those here will work wonders.

Performing bios diagnostic right now, on my iPhone posting this thread.

Update 1 (5:52 pm): Bios diagnostic passed.
Update 1 (9:48 8th may 2011): BSOD today - changed some settings, let me know if the BSOD dump files are included in the new attached '....jcgriff.zip (BSOD 2).zip' file. Uninstalling norton 360 now. Have installed some other extra troubleshooting utilities (HWinfo32, BlueScreenView).

Will add the required info as things move along i.e. Screen shot, error dump etc.

Below are photos I took last night when BSOD last occurred.

    A: BSOD full screen shot

    B: BSOD partial screen shot

More diagnostic info to come. Stay tuned!

    Hi,

For some reason BSOD dump files are not being created on your system, however there is enough information available from the pictures and the system information to make some progress.

To start with, NETwLv32.sys is an Intel Wireless Networking driver, your version has a timestamp of Tue Aug 17 02:26:04 2010 which is sufficiently up to date.

So, there is probably something else interfering with the networking driver to cause the crash. From experience, that "something" is most likely Norton360, which you have installed.

I suggest removing Norton for now, if you still get BSODs then it is obviously not the cause and if you wish you can reinstall it, however if you do not get BSODs then the problem is solved!

    Norton Removal

Download the Norton Removal Tool (NRT); save to desktop. Boot into SAFEMODE - NO Networking. Tap F8 key during boot-up. Then go to desktop, RIGHT-click on the NRT icon and select Run as Administrator.

    When complete - re-boot.

    NRT - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/englis...moval_Tool.exe

Install MS Security Essentials --> http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START -> type cmd.exe -> right-click -> run as administrator -> type netsh advfirewall reset press enter

Ok I might try that on the wkend. Lack of dump files might be explained by (I'm not that tech savy) > I changed some settings the other night in the'System properties' window within the 'Startup and recovery' options. In 'System startup' area I selected check box for 'Time to display recovery options when needed (50)' only because my laptop had been restarting automatically. Then in 'System failure' area not sure whether 'Automatically restart' was already checked but I selected changed 'None' to 'Kernal memory dump' from the drop down box which allowed the 'Overwrite any existing file' to be checked and unchecked (but I left it as it was - checked).

I do tend to often have a large number of web tabs open in both IE and firefox....I mean alot. lol 20 in each browser at the maximum probably only 30% of the time, then I might have 2-4 MS office 2010 docs open, 1-2 excel docs open, 2-4 windows explorer windows open, perhaps a control panel window or two. How much do you think my system can handle, as I only do this to help increase my efficiency to study.

The laptop tends to stay on, on average its rarely turned off for long.

Possible fix - Plan to run week of system tests/resource stresses.

Please do not mark this as solved, as I need to determine whether the issue is fixed by running the laptop for a week with system tests/resource stresses.

I had unstalled norton 360 twice, the first time it remained unstalled for several days but I can't recall if a BSOD occurred. The second time only temporarily uninstalled for less than an hour, as such I currently have Norton 360 installed.

From my memory, I believe the previous Intel Wireless Networking driver was for windows vista only; however, Intel now have the driver for windows 7 driver available for download and comes as either the driver alone or driver plus PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software.

I installed the combined download, which has a very basic appearance, although provides three seperate diagnostics (View stats; Diagnose; and, Open viewer) which are likely to prove functional and plenty of scope for visual/practical improvements in the future.

I haven't had a BSOD since I installed this software 4 hours ago, which is a good sign considering the frequency of BSOD's that was occuring. Will keep you posted.
